Telextext is reporting that series 2 of the X Factor will start screening in August, just 8 months after the end of series 1. And whats more they are extending the series this time so it runs for 21 weeks rather than 17. Auditions around the country will start in May, with the series first going to air in August and then it will run right up to the end of December.

Teletext also say the format of the show will be the same with the three judges and Kate Thornton as presenter. They also say they left a big gap between series 1 and 2 of Pop Idol as that was only aimed at under 25's - with the X Factor it is for everyone over 16.

I wonder what this means for Pop Idol, werent there plans for Pop Idol 3 before ITV realised what a huge success X Factor was. And if X Factor 2 is running for 4 weeks longer this could mean there being up to 12 acts in the live finals.

Is it too early to place your bets that one of Simon Cowell's "discoveries" will win?

Hmm...Has anyone actually heard anything from the winner of the 1st series? I've forgotten his name, the one which was up his own ass, and got a verbal bashing from Sharon Osbourne.

What a desperate decision by ITV. People will just not watch 21 weeks of an amateur talent contest - no matter how rude they can persuade the judges to be.

Once Strictly Come Dancing returns, those ITV chiefs will be weeping and wailing.

Personally, I don't think I will ever watch The X Factor again. Look at Steve, he's going nowhere. Neither did:

The only real winners were Girls Aloud and Will Young. Why can't ITV show new or cult Game Shows or Comedies?

Because despite the fact that the X Factor was no where near as a success ratings wise as Pop Idol was, it still brings in a hell of a lot more viewers then The Krypton Factor, Judgment Day, Mr. Bean or Hardware ever could/would.

So according to past statements, Pop Stars, Pop Idol and X Factor will all be running this year! Doubt it now. Pop Stars was supposed to be running this spring, with Pop Idol and X Factor reportedly running at the end of this year. I guess Pop Idol will be pushed back to early 06.

Popstars was pulled several months ago, when a second series of X factor was ordered.

So your not going to watch it because the winner wasn't very good?
Its a TV show not an EMI audition. Who cares how successful the people are as long as you enjoy the TV show

Steve Brookstein was the winner, he has released a single but apart from that ive not heard anything about him.

I will watch the second series as its a good entertainment programme, I doubt we will see Popstars back again now ITV have got X Factor and Pop Idol.

Whether you like it or not, this statement is quite simply untrue. Of course they'll watch it! And that's exactly why there making a second series.

Well that's certainly true, the shows have little credibility any more, when they're talking about contenders being "the next big thing" all the way through 21 weeks it just doesn't quite ring true any more.

Despite all that I think it's entertaining and I'll probably watch.

I think they should change the format. Just give them a big cash prize at the end instead of promising them the world. It's then up to record companies whether to give them contracts or not. Like it or not, the public don't necessarily know who the better artist is. If G4 had won that program i'm sure they'd of been around for a lot longer than Steve appears to have been so far.
