X Factor presentation on ITV1

It's Simon v Sharron - oh dear! (December 2004)

X Factor idents have been introduced today, but it seems that those at ITV wanted a Sharron v Simon final, as everything I've seen involved them pair, not Louis.

The cartoon animations, featured on idents, break bumpers and within programmes, basically have Simon and Sharron holding a banner (either "ITV1" or "3 days to go"), trying to pull it off the other.

I've noticed, very odd, though I bet they take a while to make though.
Plus I personally couldn't see Louis doing the same with a chessy grin on his face, and Simon & Sharon are easily recogniseable.

With the witchedy grub and now these pair, it gives me hope for Christmas, though they most probably won't bother. Judging by UTV's Idents for programmes next week they have ea light blue background with 2D snowflakes falling, and if it's like last year this will also be the ITV1 look, how rubbish!

But what's to say that they haven't also made a Louis v Simon animation and a Louis v Sharon one?

Oh dear... If you thought the ITV 'Next' straps were distracting and annoying, that's nothing.

The animated Simon and Sharon characters have walked on screen a couple of times mid-programme in Countdown to Christmas. Please someone tell me this was a mistake.

Nope. They did it during Des & Mel, where they also shownt the witchedy grub on Monday. Though I haven't seen them used through a programme before, just at the end.

Ive seen it featured on This Morning, Des and Mel and Countdown to Christmas!

It wouldnt look as out of place if the presenters actually referred to it!

They can't see it can they? As all they see are the pictures being sent to be transmitted rather than what ITV1 transmits, else you'd get guests on Des & Mel like Bradley Walsh, etc looking and referring to the things coming on screen.

AIUI they do this in the US as well - though normally on the way back after an ad-break (so they have a lot of opportunities!)

Unlikely these days - it is usual for studio out to be routed to floor monitors rather than off-air (or network if available directly in the building), though some studios will still provide network monitoring if it is un-delayed and useful for a presenter to see what is on-air before them.

Not a mistake at all - and ITV1 have done this several times in the last couple of weeks with the "I'm a Celebrity" wigedy grub thing.

I don't mind them much on these type of shows, but these are too big and on too long.

I saw this on Des and Mel earlier. They just stay on the screen far too long as for the Simon and Sharon animations....

The worst example of this type of promotion I've ever seen was when i still lived in The Netherlands.
Channel 6 always had these types of things, a ball bouncing along the screen to promote a footie-match ( During a movie! ) and I also once saw a helicopter flying across the screen to promote some B-celebs videodiary.
Little surprising THAT is the channel that gave Rebecca Loos a presenting-deal. (They ditched her after two weeks though for she was rubbish, but then again, what do you expect if you put somebody with no experience in a daily live-show.)
