Seems to be another charging mistake. This time by ITV:

From MediaGuardian:
'ITV has admitted to charging The X Factor viewers incorrectly in a problem with the red button interactive system.'

They should set up a premium helpline to claim it back!!!

Seems to be the presses latest bee in their bonnet. Perhaps someone should investigate their competitions and offers!

Yes, we know some of these things aren't as clear as they should be - and yes the TV companies unashamedly use premium competitions and the like as revenue making tools as well.

However, it can't get too the stage where every genuine mistake over the years can be regarded as a scam!

And as I always say who is more trustworthy - the British press or the TV companies. I'd trust the TV companies everytime - even ITV! Wink

Well Channel 4 put up a phone number to ring after R&J for people to claim their money back. Money not claimed is going to Great Ormond Street Hospital.

One flaw however, to claim the money back, you needed to answer the following question...

Do you feel premium rate phone quizzes are a con?
A) Yes
B) No
C) Tabby cats.

It seems amazing that this mistake only came to light because of an audit of ITV's accounts, and not because any of the people who voted 1.3 million times actually noticed they'd been charged 50p instead of 35p!

Yes - I cant believe the press didnt pick up on this small matter!

Also people are putting this in with the other phone scams - where conscious decisions have been made by production staff/telephone people knowingly conning the general public. In this instance itv hasnt been like that and as described above ITV were undercharging people and lost many tens of thousands in the process.
