Well they’ve progressively made Strictly younger in recent years.

Back at the start when Brucie was at the helm, and a young Dancer was more a token effort than about half it is now, it skewed much older back then.

Agree remember when the lineup was announced and people slagged Saffron Barker, Karim etc. and said who, well it seems it is getting more popular especially with younger people and will continue to until ITV have some decent competition against SCD on a Saturday night. They tried with BGT and that did better than X Factor but still failed overall.

Would it really have been that bad to just do the normal series this year? Ratings probably would have been higher.

Agreed- been slowly using interest these past few years (skipped most of the 2015 series), but Saturday was the first time I actually turned off the show-the singing is dreadful, and the lineup makes Strictly's look like A-Listers (Apart from Emma Weymouth, I actually knew all the Strictly lineup, but wouldn't really call them big names except in comparison to X Factor.

My Facebook feed is filled with old colleagues of mine desperately trying to find casting people for this band series, sounds like it's the very definition of a quick turnaround show. ITV must have given it the go ahead literally days ago. Will be really interesting to see what they can put together in the space of a month, and indeed what on earth the format will be.

A show about them trying to put the show together in less than a month would actually be far more watchable.

Wasn't the idea for the champions/all-star/best of series to run over a week in December?
I wonder if the plan is to run the band series over the same time scale or to run it over just a few weekends.

There has recently been a new Head of Entertainment in Katie Rawcliffe at ITV, I wonder if this change in series has been as a result of meetings with Syco.

The usually reliable Mark Jeffries says they were struggling to sign up acts and Leona pulling out was the last straw.

Seems this series is only going ahead because they've booked Birmingham Arena so it'll air in the same slot.

What an absolute mess. ITV should just pull the plug to save face.

Could see Simon doing a Noel and pulling a live show to rework things (and get publicity).

ITV have the upper hand here and although I do think BGT is the best talent show on air ATM with the best panel, it is on the decline and would actually be easier to replace for ITV than the X Factor with basically 8 weekends of basically 1 hour shows and probably a stripped drama to replace the live week, so I'd call Cowell's bluff on pulling it.

What would ITV replace The X Factor with? They seem to play it safe against strictly but have always counted on The X Factor to attract the viewers across to ITV afterwards, bar I'm A Celebrity I can't think of a current show that could have that appeal.
