Its time The X Factor was put to bed now. It was great for many years but the last few years of the normal series were dreadful and this Celebrity version is no better.

I actually think the last few years have been pretty good, certainly talent-wise anyway. I think Simon fundamentally misjudges what the viewers like though. Robbie and Ayda last year were actually pretty decent but, lo and behold, gone this year without a mention as if last year hadn’t even happened. Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora were good, but gone once again. There doesn’t seem to be any consideration given to the idea that - maybe - Simon, Nicole, Louis, Sharon and Cheryl are actually what people are fed up with.

I watched Strictly's Halloween Special last night, and it was fantastic, and judging by the spoilers leaking online today, it seems we are in for a big results show tonight which will really annoy fans and bring in high ratings next weekend am sure.

X Factor, oh dear, I decided to watch the live show, and I wish I did not waste my time. I would be better off watching old sitcoms on YouTube than last night's X factor.

The show is dead. The format is dead. They have truly milked it dry and there is no milk left. Louis bloody Walsh still comes out with the same crap lines he says after each performer sings, like a record which had its needle stuck in its groove.

ITV really need to dump X Factor and bring in something else. The viewing figures are appalling. However I suspect as long as they keep attracting the key demo age group, the show will remain.

God knows how the All Stars X Factor will fair, if the celebrity version is such dire crap.

Ouch beaten by the Wall and Strictly had nearly 9 million as well, think it's about time ITV pulled the plug but the problem is Simon Cowell deal with ITV is for BGT and X Factor, would he allow the axe of one and keep the other?

The issue though which was very evident last night is Simon clearly finds the X Factor a burden and a chore now and actually keeping it is bringing down BGT now. If it does survive it would be better off without Simon.

He should review his deal with ITV and just admit X Factor is a failure now, end that part of the contract and just continue with BGT.

He won't because he still clings to the fact that the key demo age group are still watching X Factor apparently, and that is the core group ITV want for their advertising income.

ITV are only keeping X Factor because it must be bringing in money. Even though the ratings are low, they must still be attracting enough advertisers and income, otherwise ITV would end the contract if they were not pulling in a profit.

Low viewing figures are one thing - Low advertising revenue is the key factor, and if we see X Factor continuing into 2020, we know ITV are making money on the show as it is.

I found the set design a refreshing change and felt that it has become much more of a set than the past few series. The corridors adding depth, the framing of the stage area, the moveable stage side panels, the tiers of audience and the toned down desk all work for me, however it did feel a lot smaller and flatter than previous series. Having the audience so closely behind the judges being lit so much meant that the audience were reactions and interactions became more entertaining than the judges comments; at one point during the vote off a woman behind Simon popped something into her mouth, I assume that she didn’t think that she would appear on TV as closely as she did.

As for the content, some performances were good and a step in the right direction, such as an original song being trialled with the love island foursome, others were a little confusing, ‘Anyone who had a heart’ was a brilliant song for Cilla in the 1960s, but it just didn’t work with a modern reworking.

The seat element is something that I didn’t understand at first, but when I grasped it I didn’t like the way the that they produced it. For example, once Jenny Ryan claimed the seat, the rest of the overs category knew that they couldn’t. Surely it would add tension if the judges decided which of their acts they were putting into next weeks show after they’ve all performed and before the votes had opened.

I think a lot has been lost on having just a small 6 minute voting window. The benefit of the Sunday results show meant that votes were picked up throughout Sunday especially after the Sunday afternoon repeat and from people recording the programme to watch later.

I think Simon’s attitude towards the show was summed up by asking Dermot to hurry up and get the results done.

I think the stage was deceptively large. Didn't look to big at first glance but the screen was massive when it opened at the beginning and Dermot came through - probably 3 times his height.

I'm just not a huge fan of these theatre style stages which kind of box in the act. For BGT it makes sense, practically as well as aesthetically, but for The X Factor I think the stage should bring the act into the audience. Overall though it is a nice set.

I find it hard to put into words what I thought of Saturday and the new set. I think the new set is nice, but they went too far with the whole BGT looking stage area, I think the big problem is the stage is too large and there's a massive gap between the judges and the stage, and it all just looks a little empty. It's like they needed some standing audience in there at the front and the judges/table section raised. I liked the toned-down desk and thought the colour changes looked nice throughout each performance. I have to be honest, the first episode seemed the best - it just seemed to have a certain 'warmth' about is which seems to get less and less each week. I personally think this 6 or 7 weeks of whatever it is of live shows, is gonna feel like it goes on forever!

On another note, Scherzinger didn't seem her usal self - normally she's making up all these crazy words and getting really passionate but she seemed a bit held back. The Simon/Dermot talk was strange as well.

If I can sum it up in one word it felt 'odd' on Saturday.

I think you get that all spot on. I loved the first show of the series. I fear the lives are going to be a chore (and I normally love them).

The theme tune is an inconsistent mess. You have this reworked main theme which is little more than a sting, the bed during the results reveal which obviously goes with the old theme & the end credits which had something different altogether.
