Does add a bit of weight to the rumours that All Stars would be filmed on a different set (in Birmingham) - this doesn't seem suitable for that.

It’s certainly a departure. And therefore I fully expect next year’s series to be ‘back to basics’ just like happens every time they do something different.

I wish it was a departure, for good.

I hope everyone is ready for some shiny foil effect wallpaper! Looks like there’s a fair bit on set..!

Very cabaret club style.

I agree, really odd. Feels so empty in there.

Remember when X Factor looked expensive? That judges shot showing about 20 people all lit up, the corrugated plastic wall and blinds effect desk make it look so 80s. Guess they were trying to go for a BGT look on a budget. A world away from its heyday, it's sad really.

Wonder if Dermot cringes at how saying "your Saturday night starts right here" used to actually mean something?

Did anyone else notice that technical problem before the break.

It crashed on the X Factor screen then went to the Just Eat ad and then to a black screen and for a second to the old ITV holding slide before going to a break.

The whole thing is dreadful.

What?! Seats?! A.K.A Golden Buzzer?! I’m utterly confused having only tuned in halfway through!

Simon clearly hates the show now and can't be bothered with it, so how can he expect the viewers to bother with it? I've said for a while Simon is the weak link on the panel (although Louis proving tonight why he keeps getting sacked) and if he can't commit to the mentoring he either needs to remove himself from the show or rework it so he's a neutral judge.

Two pros from tonight - ITV cutting back their airtime meant three acts in most parts, which the show benefits from. And back to 3 judges moves things along nicely too.

The same old cons as always though are still there - just not enough effort put in and producers giving acts poor song choices (which Simon called out throughout, mainly for his own acts) which just hold the show back. And of course a controversial booting at the end because Simon thinks too much about what he thinks the public want rather than judging what he is presented with.
