We started the week with the possibility that The X Factor was axed now we end the week with two series of The X Factor this year. It's been a bad week.
I think the format has been run down to much. If they had taken breaks along the way I think the show would not be in as bad place as it is. I doubt the new format next year will do much. If there one thing I learnt is the Simon will not till stop till he is stopped. So this is going to go on for years.

Well, to be fair we started the week with the news that the series presently in production had been put on hiatus, possibly cancelled, and that's exactly what's transpired.
I believe some apologies are owed to XQD.

Yes, I remember Victoria Beckham performed.
It's a shame they never continued with Pop Idol or Popstars. I know it would've descended into a pantomime much like TXF but I liked the audition process and we got a real insight into the music industry.
Anyone remember World Idol? Broadcast on Christmas Day 2003 and saw various talent show winners from Pop Idol across the globe battling it out to become you guessed it, World Idol.
In the UK, it used premium rate numbers for you to vote, how festive! Apparently Simon Cowell was critical of the format as it made the other initial winners into the show as losers (other than the champion of World Idol)
For the record, Will Young came fifth.

The original Popstars was great. It was more documentary series than reality show.
Yes - only one live show, and that was finding out the chart position. Which would have been awkward had it not gone to Number 1.

I have the first episode if anyone is interested?

From the back of Pop Idol, Will Young's first single release, Evergreen, is currently the most sold single of the 21st century to date.

What’s the odd part at the end of the clip where hear’say are stood up singing together whilst it looks like part of the auditions. Hmm. Had they already selected their band by this point?

Coincidence?
Unlike later shows I always saw the first Popstars as commpletely genuine. They made a massive deal of driving to each of the final 10's houses to break the news (including Lythgoe making one hell of a journey to Ireland during the horrific weather of early November 2000) - I dare say they went through all possible combinations. The London stages of the auditions took it down to 20, then on the last day 10 were told "seeya" and what became Hear'say and Liberty X were told to go home and await a visit.
