Bruno and Len though are not executive producers and are not supposedly mentoring their acts. Although we all know Cowell turned up on a Friday and had a few minutes in his office with his acts he's got to be able to sell the format to the US as if he's working with his acts all week - and flying back and too makes a mockery of that.

Yes. In "on screen" terms the mentoring would look stupid - though in reality there is zero mentoring I'm sure... But as you say - it would be an issue.

X Factor UK doesn't broadcast in America so as far as they're concerned it wouldn't be an issue. He used to film the American Idol auditions during our live shows, so it probably would make no odds to him. But he's probably just hoping for higher ratings in the UK for ITV2.

I just find myself shaking my head at all the deeply-earnest discussions of "mentoring". These shows have a musical director who will rehearse with the act, and that's it. There might be a choreographer who will suggest the singer starts at one spot on the stage and ends up at another - but "mentoring"? No.

Its all so much horse-shicht.

The extent of mentoring is probably choosing a song from the list on Monday morning. I remember Sharon Osbourne had a cryptic argument with Simon on air about the extent of mentoring (something to do with roller skates Shocked , I can't really remember) but that said all we need to know and it was even less staged then. That's probably why she got her marching orders.

Quite... It's all a pantomime - and the phone voting and competitions play the public for mugs...

Isn't the X Factor the one that has the same prize touted for several weeks - so its not even a weekly draw?

Mental.

If there's one show that could afford a decent weekly prize fund its this one.

To be fair, I think most viewers know this by now.
