How did UTV and STV cover the breakdown ?

At the end of TV Burp we had the ITV1 voiceover and ECP graphics, however the UTV graphics afterwards played out as normal. The X Factor started with a UTV ident with a voiceover by Rose Neill saying that due to 'techincal issues beyond our control' we are unable to bring you the X Factor at present but we hope you enjoy this alternative programming. When the proper X Factor programme came back on, it just returned from a break as normal, no announcement or anything. Then during one of the other breaks we had an ITV1 ident and announcement explaining why it was late starting.

Clear now that it's a publishing error in STV's online news service.

I guess this means Xtra Factor will be behind. What will they show on ITV 2?

I bet it'll be Planet's Funniest Animals.

apparently stv's website has already revealed the winner of the "vote in"

EVIDENCE SUGGESTS THAT "STV" HAS HOLDING PAGES FOR ALL THE OPTIONS

Love how all but Amelia are seen as a shock.

I thought it was a mistake tonight not to reveal the result to the acts on screen. I assumed they'd reveal the result then have the act perform after the break.

Anyone here a DS member here? If so, would it be possible to put those idiots saying that tonight's show wasn't live right? They're also saying it's never completely live, as in a delay like Big Brother. X Factor is always 100% live.

This show has always been about the judges. It worked far more to see their reaction than the predictable reaction of the acts who nobody would care about after Amelia Lily's performance.

Some of the guest performances on the results show aren't done live. The rest is live. If anything, their references to technical problems tonight proved that. Didn't Frankie Cocozza swear the other week too?

I would post on DS but it would be like talking to a thousand brick walls.

Yes, sorry. I was talking about the bulk of the show. VTs are also not live, for any silly DS readers amongst us.

I'm guessing from these posts that no one heard the VO before the X Factor begun? Technical difficulties at the studio.

To be fair, 'technical problems' is a meaningless phrase that continuity announcers use when they don't know or can't say what is happening.

They would have said 'technical problems' even if the problem was someone in the gallery pressing the wrong button or Louis Walsh making a dirty protest on the stage. It is only later, if at all, that viewers get to hear what the actually problem was.

Did UTV and STV get the ITV1 logo with CA at the end of the first break, just before the live programme came on air? Oddly, for a continuity announcement, this was subtitled (live) and it was the first reference to the problem that the subtitles mentioned.

There was also another announcement over an ITV1 ident at the end of the third break (the second of the live show). This was not subtitled. Neither was the apology over the end credits.

I wonder how long the highlights tape went on for. For completeness sake, we did not lose any of Harry Hill's TV Burp in the DSAT SD Meridian South region.

On STV, the first sign of ITV1 pres. was the IPP during TV Burp. Then we had ITV1 branded ECP and CA over the credits. STV's breakdown slide appeared during a few of the subsequent breaks (which I'm assuming was to cover up ITV1 promos). The junction into The X Factor (backup highlights) was simply an STV ident, and a CA saying "This is STV", followed by silent breakdown slide, and a quick flash of the ITV1 logo. Just before we went to the live show at 8.30, the breakdown slide came back up, with CA apologising for the delay, "...and now I think we can hand over to The X Factor."

Exactly I heard 'technical problems' from the CA but that can be euphemism for something we don't want you to know about. The other one is 'unforeseen circumstances' which I guess is a bit more honest if it something they don't want the viewer to know about. I was convinced something had kick off like a Fathers for Justice type protest.
