I did sort of promise I wouldn't comment on the X Factor's peculiar theatrics as a method for building public interest last time - as fans of the show enjoy it, and in essence I shouldn't pee on someone else's parade.
But I assumed it went without saying that you knew it was part of the scripting of the piece.
There's dozens of shows like this (on ice, modelling, dancing, cooking) - most all those shows have similar tensions, just as much at stake for the competitors and viewing figures to worry about. But nearly all of them operate without "backstage drama" becoming the headlines in the week between shows.
X Factor just does things a different way - but they're right up there as one of the most "professionally run" shows.
Ergo, NOTHING takes place live or gets into the press without it being devised/written/rehearsed.
If things were genuinley falling apart, with producers not knowing what was going on or how to fix problems, they wouldn't be ITV's number one show.
Would they.
