THE WINNER IS.......... Is there a X factor 2012? (April 2011)

I don't think this has been covered in this thread but what are the double cue dots for during the x factor?

Am I right in thinking one is for the network while the other is for the regions... Or something like that?

You're basically right, the one on the left is inserted by the X Factor gallery to signal to ITV Network when they will be going to a break, and then the one on the right is inserted by ITV Network to signal to Leeds/STV/UTV when to insert their ads. You'll notice the one on the right stays on over the sponsorship bumper for this reason, as the sponsor is played by ITV Network.

Interestingly stv HD only has a single cue dot but stv SD had two...

It's the same on ITV1/ITV1 HD. ITV1 (SD) has the cue dot inserted by ITV Network as described above. HD gets a clean feed as it is inserted seperately.

I guess this means a new set change in 2012 - inspired by the US (as they plan to have a whole new set for their live finals, correct?)

As I understand it there is a completely different set being designed by Florian Wieder for the US version of the show. I see from Applause Store USA that they are having their live finals at Stage 36 in CBS TV City, the same stage which is used for the AGT live shows.

Also, hello again steadicam! Nicely seen on The Risk, James Michael, Marcus Collins to name a few. Prior to this it was last seen in series 5 in 2008. Not sure why it wasn't used in 2009 or 2010.

Unfortunately, bye bye Stedicam! As I understand it wasn't used on Sunday's show and has been 'disposed of' for some reason.

Sad times Steadicam! Hmm. I noticed that it hadn't been used during Sunday's show - but, with only two performances from CeeLo Green and Matt Cardle's - and their performances taking up a large amount of space/being v.energetic, I'm not sure if logistically it could have ran on and off stage ok.
(whew, long sentence lol)
I am however hoping it makes a re-appearance this coming Saturday anyway.

Also, the logo has changed to the same one as the USA - with the different font. Goodbye Gill Sans.

I noticed this and instantly frowned upon its misuse along with Gill Sans used everywhere else in the show. Why Eurostile, must you come and ruin a great British typeface???

Still, it is the first live show, and tweaks can still happen. I always get a feeling the show producers and co try something/bring something new and different to each live show. Fingahhs crozzzzd Smile

I can just see a Peter Dickson trailer now promoting a "NEW FONT" next week! I've no issue with fonts old or new, but the astons themselves on The X Factor have always been quite poor IMO.

Back to the US version and no wonder it's struggling - our Judges House show is a farely speedy two-hour run through with only around half the contestants shown performing in full. The US are showing a performance in full from each act complete with build up and reaction - and even more annoyingly keep switching from one judge to the next rather than showing one category in full then switching to another. Two-hours in and they're only half way through the performances - and it's making rather dull television, especially when Simon Cowell's sidekick (Mariah Carey) didn't bother to show up. Surely with Simon being in France they could have found someone from the UK to join him last minute - even if only Sinnita!

Yeah. They could have pulled in Gary Barlow even from London, or even better - my dream appearance, Tina Turner who only lives a short flight away in Zurich.

Rio Ferdinand (he's a footballer I think) tweets about the X Factor. Did you know that? Fascinating really isn't it... and people say TV's dumbing down.

If they're trying to be BBC Three/ITV2 they could have at least chosen tweets from 'normal' people.

Well someone has just sworn at Gary barlow, Not surprised his attitude stinks and he needs some Sour Cream to go...... he gotten nothing to be proud of either with some of his choice..... "Frankie"

Is that NOT the first time a judge has been sworn at during the live show?

I might be wrong but have they reverted to the previous theme tune this week - ironically ditching the more rocked up version for Rock Week.

They've also made pointless cosmetic changes to the intros and seemed to have toned down Peter Dickson - they've basically hit the panic button and meddled with things which weren't really the problem, as the talent on show tonight is still piss poor (and only highlighted how below par they are by showing Rebecca from last year in the comp VT).

There may be truth in the newspaper reports:

Well the judges bad mouting eachother tonight certainly isn't helping things. Embarrassing TV to be honest. Don't worry though, no doubt Simon Cowell will reappear come the semi-finals to stir the tension down and make sure he still gets the xmas no 1. It's all PR.

I have heard he really not happy, and this report is from outside the newspapers. Im sure tonight was the first time someone has sworn at the judges, personnel good on them at Gary his attitude is just disgusting and a good slap is needed. I hope his mother does it!
