And ofcourse after last year the first ad break has to have those Yeo Valley farmers ... this year as a boyband!

I'm not sure Talk Talk would be too happy with a rival phone company having product placement. Talk Talk Mobile maybe!. Laughing I'm almost sure that's the reason the final's at Wembley rather than the 02 Arena.

Not that the studios are very close to Wembley Arena? If they wanted to use the o2 and it caused a problem with TalkTalk they would probably refer to it as the North Greenwich Arena as it has been before in similar situations.

Well if that's all it is it's time they moved with the times. Several times tonight on The X Factor USA they had to put subtitles up because the judges were not close enough to the mics.

The judges have lapel mics, but they are faded down during performances, hence the subtitles.

I never thought about the Wembley Arena/O2 Arena type scenario. Good point though!
Does anyone know of any news on a new set this year? The old one has been used for 2 years now so maybe they can get another year out of it, but with all this 'Next Generation' promotion, maybe a new one is in the pipeline?

And I predict that either of these titles will be in use from next week . . .
<snip>

Well it was more with the Olympics that made me think - as it has to be called the North Greenwich Arena because IIRC the IOC are protecting BT sponsorship rights. So I wouldn't have thought Talk Talk would be that happy it being at the 02. The auditions they can just about get away with becuase it isn't referenced that much. If the final was there it'd be "live from the 02" every 10 seconds! Laughing But as Whataday says suppose the fact that the studio & arean are close pays a part.

Also I'm sure it was confirmed that we would be getting the US titles ( obvioulsy with a slight edit at the end with a l more London/UK backdrop.

Also the set will be the same - doesn't look like any changes at all, which is a good thing IMO, am a big fan of the current set:

I usually regret asking technically questions on here as you generally get technical answers, but here goes - is there any particular reason on US talent shows they had mics fixed on the judges desk rather than having the judges miced up as he in the UK. Doesn't look good when the judges have to lean into the mic to be heard!

Its just a tradition using those mics I think. Those type have always been on US talent shows.

Yeah I've wondered that, just looks messy if anything else. Speaking of which the whole US show isn't as half as slick production wise as ours. Even the judges desk isn't a proper illuminated one like ours, just an ordinary desk, I know there only petty things, but just make the whole show look less polished. the voiceover isn't a patch on Peter Dickson too!!

Actually quite a good twist if I'm honest, better than last year anyway, plus it will cut it down to 12 for the following week compared to the 15 or whatever they ended up with in the 2nd week last year, because of the wildcards. Surprised there's no public vote though considering it makes a fair bit of money. Plus there's bound to be one good one get voted out over a more controversial/comedy act which will no doubt create some publicty.

With this twist I really don't see the need for a theme this week - and "UK vs US" is obviously them feeling the need to have a theme when they don't really want one. IMO the first week should be purely either the contestant or judges choice to sell the contestants strengths.

Like the new titles. They've needed a refresh for past few years IMO.

Just in case anyone is not watching and wondering - the titles are the same as the USA titles, with the obvious changes - no executive producer credits and a shot of Tower Bridge instead of the Statue of Liberty.

Also, the logo has changed to the same one as the USA - with the different font. Goodbye Gill Sans.

A graphic now appears after the post-performance interview telling the viewer the song can be downloaded online. The first time it appeared, it included a "Downloadable on iTunes" graphic, which seems to have disappeared on all subsequent appearances.

The out-of-break/into-break sting doesn't work as well with the new theme as the previous version - it's a bit hasty.

Very nice titles - they have needed a revamp.

Also, the Health Lottery will be on during an X-Factor Ad-break just after 9:30. Same time on Channel 5.

Are the titles slightly longer than US version, they seem to be. I thought they looked ok.

Indeed, it lacks that 'punch' at the start to bridge the gap from studio output to the sting. I imagine it will be tweaked.
