Leon is to X Factor what Michelle McManus was to Pop Idol - totally forgetable.

Correct!

He certainly was the underdog in terms of the Gareth Gates / Will Young Pop idol days. We were all convinced Gareth was going to win and history soon took it turns but I really can't see Leon having much of a shelf life. From what I can see, he's packaged similar to that young lad from last year whose name has gone past me.

A good entertainment show tonight but as for pop careers, I don't think none of them would have lasted beyond a year but Meridian Very Happy has potential in the theatres.

Well done Leon - as I said earlier I couldn't begrudge any of them winning tonight - and Rhydian I think will probably benefit more from not winning.

I do fear though Leon will be on the scrapheap sooner than you can "Gareth Gates".

Absolutely. If this is the best of New British Talent then we have no hope.

In my opinion worst series of X Factor ever.

The problem with The X Factor is they're far more concerned about making a show than about making a credible long-lasting star.

Got to mention Danni Minogue too - a victory much deserved if only to put those oldies who like nothing better than bullying the newbie in their place - which hopefully after Simon's had a word with them will be in the firing line!

She's been a breath of fresh air this year - completely leaving all personal issues out of it and judging each performance for what it was. Also tonight she didn't say a single word against Same Difference.

We've also seen a nicer side to Mr Cowell this year - certainly in the live shows he's resorted to less of his usual putdowns and been a bit more professional in giving his opinion - unlike a certain Mr Louis Walsh.

Leona has been most successful out of X Factor so far.

Leon (without the 'a') doesn't have the power in his voice in my opinion. He's brilliant at jazz but I don't know if he's got the best range...well none of them had this year really.

Do you think people this time next year will be saying "Remember that guy who won The X Factor last year, Leon?"

"Who?"

Exactly right. An act that wins by getting phone votes on this kind of show is not the same thing as an act that will have long term success in the music industry. In fact there is hardly any correlation between the two things.

Talking votes - not surprising really but absolutely no mention of the total amount received tonight. I'd guess it's well down on the usual 10m or so...

I would like ITV to follow the BBC's example with Sports Personality though and release a full breakdown of votes for the final.

I thought old Meridian was a good old gent taking the time to thank people who voted even if it was expensive. Its a shame the audience had to laugh at night and even Dermot had to be sarcy saying it isn't that expensive.

People are saying that Leon is forgettable - IMO his version of the song was the best, and he has some sort of spark to his voice that I'd quite like to hear more from in future.

As for Rhydian, you should have seen the looks coming from his face!

(FYI, I HATE this particular arrangement of the song, it's a much better song when sung in the movie by Michelle Pfeiffer and Sally Dworsky... written by Stephen Schwartz, who also wrote hit musicals Godspell and Wicked. Don't decry the song until you've heard that version! If you still decry the song, well, sod off, frankly!)
