Is it just me or is the competition REALLY poor this year?

You have the Butlins kids: Same Difference.
You have the guy who would sound so much better singing what he should be - West End hits - on state: Rhydian.
You have the cheap copy of Girls Aloud: Hope.
You have the black girl who they give all the big songs to: Beverley.
You have the younger black girl who they give the more fashionable songs to: Alisha.
You have the non-entities: Andy and Leon.
You have the girl who can sing but needs a kick up the arse: Niki.

The other four I can't even remember they were that sh it.

And this is supposed to be the biggest talent competition in the UK? I'm not impressed one bit.

I agree with you, I think the show is very poor this year in terms of the talent. I can't stand same difference, and it makes me cross seeing Simon giving them false hope, if he wasn't there mentour he would have tore them apart by now.

Whats up with the awful dance routines this year? It looks so reharsed, and I hate it when they go down to the judges and shake there hands, or start singing to them directly. Wish they would get rid of that Brian "Creative Director" dude....hate the way he is in shot everytime we see the judges...

Anyway thats my rant over Smile

To be honest I think someone on here says something along these lines at this stage of the competition every year. The contestants are still finding their feet and also we're still getting used to them. I think comparing Leon with Ray is a little unfair - Ray was a lot more memorable even if he did seem like a one trick pony.

I was very pleased with last night's result - Andy has been consistently average since the start and it was time he went. When he first started his song he was also terribly out of tune, however he corrected himself and it was fine after that.

Same Difference are such a soft target aren't they! However they keep turning in good (and shamelessly cheesy!) performances, and as one of the judges said they are singing and doing energetic dance routines at the same time - much harder than just standing there singing a ballad like the rest of them do.

Maybe Rhydian is more suited to Musical Theatre but it's still good to see someone like him on the show - he definately has the best voice out of them all.

I do like Nikki but she is in danger of becoming a bit unmemorable - the "All That Jazz" routine last week was good despite the trombone player between her legs!! (you'd have thought Simon Cowell would know the difference between a trumpet and a trombone wouldn't you...)

So it's disco this week - which basically means another car crash episode.

I'm glad on the whole they've kept the guests each week to just performing their own single, rather than setting the theme - but as I've always said the show worked best when it wasn't restricted by weekly themes - and hence someone classically trained like Rhydian can focus on his style of music, not some dodgy compromise.

I'm not sure what they're trying to prove with the themed weeks - it's not as if in the industry people are expected to be Abba one week, Frank Sinatra the next...

Maybe it's to force the judges to have some variation in terms of song choices - although some weeks the categories are so broad that they aren't restrictive at all, like "songs from films" or "songs from the 21st century" - plenty of scope there.

Big Band doesn't mean Rat Pack. It means they have a big band in the studio.

Well, I'd say it was a pretty small band really!

Well the only other year was last year. You're right though - the theme this year just seemed to be sing any song as long as the big band can play along in the background. At least last year they were a lot stricter with the songs they could sing. If you're going to have these silly themed weeks at least do them properly.
