Since when is Simon Cowell a "role model" for children?

I never said he was a role model, but they do look up to him (which I don't think they should considering how he treats some of the auditionees).

Maybe bullies do, but I think the rest are too busy watching E4 or EastEnders to care about Sharon or Simon.

Dermot's explanation at the top of the show was fine. It didn't warrant a condescending "Heggesey-esque" sermon.

Her absence has been explained, we move on.

I just think it would have done more to address the problem of "happy slapping" coming from someone teens look up to, and rightly or wrongly Simon Cowell and Sharon Osbourne are just that.

What year are we in tonight Simon? 1997? Wink

Just what I was thinking. Heggesey is still living that "announcement" down. Giving the person concerned even more coverage surely glorifies the whole thing in a round about way? Kids will do what they like these days, regardless of what X Factor judges say. That shower probably wont be in on a Saturday night anyway...

Exactly. Let's face it - if they hadn't been an announcement and even hadn't been any press reports, would anyone have noticed Emily wasn't there tonight?

It's all quite convenient for The X Factor who were looking at having to do one or two double evictions to get the final in before the race for Christmas Number 1.

Back to the show - was tonight the first time Simon had to choose between two of his own acts?

No he's done it before. Last series he had to choose between Ray and Nikkita, opting for Ray.

Regarding tonights vote, it seemed obvious that Danni was going to vote out Hope after Louis & Sharon went for Futureproof.

Simon could have taken the easy non-commital route out and opted for the public vote, but obviously saw this as too great a risk to Hope, who are clearly his favourites.

Don't be so naive. Who do you think told her she was "quitting"? The statements will have been drafted by X Factor producers to absolve them of responsibility and show contrition on her part.

X Factor producers "absolving themselves of responsibility". Shouldn't be surprised really.

Indeed you shouldn't. It's got nothing to do with them, has it? Why are you being needlessly sneery about it?

They might have gained more respect by telling it like it was in this instance.

From whom? Should they also do a piece on underage drinking and the need for five portions of fruit and veg a day?

It's a TV talent show, Simon - not a child's parent.

I quite enjoyed The Xtra Factor on ITV2 tonight!

My fav part was when Fearne read out the X Factor web address at www.bbc.co.... then she corrected herself and read out the itv address! lol

If that was the best part I'd shudder to think of the worst.

Quite disappointed at the bottom 2 this week - I didn't agree that Futureproof's song was a bad choice and despite the obvious lack of dance routine (shame they decided to base the entire VT on the fact that there would be a routine only for them to pull it just before the show!) it wasn't a bad performance.

Again the girls were good, excellent song, but one of them has a big pitching problem and sounded awfully flat, especially first time round.

Andy was definately the dullest so hopefully will be out soon.

Nice to see the highly talented MD Nigel Wright getting several mentions in the show - also in-vision on a number of occasions conducting the orch. It works very well and makes you realise how much better it would be with live music every week.

On a music-geek note (ho ho), they were almost certainly using a click track as several of the numbers had backing vocals in them and there were no sign of any backing vocalists. That coupled with the fact that Nigel (and a few others in the orch) were wearing cans and also he had some gizmo on the table in front of him - presumably to fire off the multitrack.

Also interesting to note that small LCD screens were dotted all over the orchestra - I couldn't see what was on them but I assume it was a feed from a locked-off camera on the conductor.

Absolutely gutted about Futureproof going - I was only saying to my old dear when I was watching the show how I thought that, out of all the contestents, Futureproof would probably be the most sucessful if they were to win. I don't know what it is but there was something really good about them. They've got a Take That style maturity about them.

I know I'll get mocked for this, but I think Same Difference are adorable. Absolutely love them. Unfortunately though, theres no way they'll ever make it after the show. I'm really glad Simon chose them though.

My prediction for the last 3 would be Niki, Rhydian and Same Difference - I don't like him myself but I think Rhydian might just clinch it.
