Anyone read that Ben Elton book Chart Throb? While it's not very good, sometimes weird decisions like her make up on that show put me in mind of the conspiracies in there...
What sort of things does the book say?
I'm hoping the start of the show this week will be more dramatic than last, it used to be much better with the lights/ music last year and the start of the show last week not much happened, it was better when the judges came onto the stage with their acts, etc.
I thought that too, last year, when the results came in Kate would say "The lines are now closed" then there was a wide shot and the whole studio went dark, it was very dramatic. On saturday though, the lights just swithced from white to blue!
Well the things I quickly need to clarify are a) it's a novel, b) it's a bit unrealistic and c) it's not very good.
The entire premise is based on a Simon Cowell-esque character rigging the show to ensure one character (The Prince of Wales - told you it wasn't very good) wins to win over a girlfriend.
Each round there's an increasing amount of cynical tactics to ensure this happens - making sure people are made up the wrong way, giving them completely the wrong song to sing, editing, etc. All things that could theoretically easily happen in any reality show in real life.
Not that I'm suggesting that is the case of course.
It's worth pointing out that the backing tracks are custom-made made by some of the best people in the business, although I do have to agree that a live orchestra would give it a better feel. The problem is that if they do anything remotely modern, it will just all be programmed on a Kurzweil so the orch would have nothing to do.
Well, American Idol have a live orchestra throughout.
Same difference really annoy me.. looks as if I'm watching a panto with those two
Thought they would have brought back the walk though from VT to the live act, but same as last week that awful voice over man introduces the acts! Meh!
I'm liking the new graphics, a huge improvement. Why oh why did Same Difference choose a song from High School Musical, I've heard the songs so many times it's sending me insane. I don't see why Brian ditched the original choreography from the film for his own, and frankly much worse choreography. Brain isn't doing a good job of choosing their outfits either (assuming he's the person choosing them).
The show does seem like a big pantomime nowadays. They seem to have got rid of all the wrong people at bootcamp, and Louis is starting to get on my nerves. The theme weeks have got to go too.
The production just seems to have been forgotten this series.
It's a massive mistake IMO not introducing the acts at the beginning, never mind for their own performances - while the judges links into the VTs were pathetically routine - "It's X, singing Y from movie Z".
It started going wrong last year with the introduction of the weekly guests - and now it feels like the focus of the show is on the guest, not the actual competition.
As for that - thought it was quite a poor show alround tonight - so poor in fact I'm struggling to rank any of the acts above Same Difference.
Prediction: Leon and Emily in the bottom two - Leon will go as they won't want to leave Sharron with just one act.

The shameless promotion of Westlife is especially annoying, and now they're doing it with Leona. In fact, I don't think they're bothered about finding a winner this year and instead are willing to bet on Leona sticking around a few months longer than she should.
What really annoyed me tonight was the discussion about Louis and Simon saying in one of the VTs how he's out of touch and "too old to be a judge". So Simon, why did you bring him back?

Give me a week and I'll get together a very good band for them.

I too find the promotion of Westlife annoying. There was no reason for the plug after Leon's performance with Louis saying "Westlife have done this song which is released on Monday" nobody watches the show for updates on Westlife, they are no way whatsoever connected with The X Factor when it comes to being a contestant. It is understandable with Leona as she was part of the show and is one of the biggest successes but Louis seems pathetic in this series, more so than he did in the others anyway.
