P.S. Tonight's show really is sickeningly formulaic - Sob Story > Sing > Westlife song > Judges having trouble deciding

Yeah, I agree with others, they need to ditch this formula at the boot camp stage as its boring and depressing. The amount of editing that goes on for this purpose is also notable. Charlie Brooker picked up on this in Screenwipe the other week.

They make out its all life changing and that the judges boot camps are out of this world and everyone's really lucky, when in reality.....Steve Brookstein anyone?

X Factor beat SCD last night - the former had 7.5m against SCD's 7.4m. SCD was ahead when they went head to head, although I think it's fair to say XF put up a good fight and did manage to overtake SCD at one point when they were both still on air.

The X Factor - 7.5m - peaking at 9.47m
Strictly - 7.4m - peaking at 8.15m

Strong ratings for both shows but next week SCD will be allowed to take the lead when XF takes a week off.

That's true. Fortunately I can see ITV doing very well for the rest of the evening with the rugby. Doesn't really help XF though.

Should be interesting to see how it goes tonight. A lot of people have complained about SCD's results moving to Sunday - especially since it was pre-recorded and a lot of forums already have the result. It might be another close one.

Why such bias towards X Factor? Just curious mind...

Because I'm an X Factor fan? I may be a little bit biased but I'm hardly going to start rooting for a show I don't watch.

Some guy posts them on another forum - he's reliable. BBC News have also reported the same figures.

I watch the X Factor and dont watch SCD, but I really couldnt care less which show gets the higher ratings.

It was confirmed at the end of tonights show that the first live X Factor will be 20th October, the same night as the Rugby World Cup Final so it will be interesting to see what happens with the scheduling that night.

Quite good choices tonight but Rhydian is still hideous.

Shameless plugging of a new Leona Lewis song over the 'Overs' telling their families the news - have to say it sounded stunningly powerful.

Good for you? I just take an interest in them - it's not life or death.
