I think the set is new again but interestingly they're staying put at Fountain, a wise decision in my book. Fountain is definitely becoming the place to be! And the food's better as well. I think what swayed Mr Cowell was the prices at Pinewood shocked him and Fountain boosted their audience capacity to 1000 so more than adequate for X Factor. Wonder if the final will go elsewhere though...

A live outdoor finale would be nice, with fireworks etc along the Thames although thats a bit OTT for many i think.

I read an article on the Media Guardian site last year which suggested that ITV wanted to make the final a bigger event than before - a bit like American idol. Not sure if that's still the plan but it would be nice.

That's being said for years now. They also said it wouldn't be at Fountain.

I think the article was talking about the final alone, i.e. the live shows would remain at Fountain but the final would be at a higher-profile venue. I recall them saying something about revamping the final into a "red-carpet" event and inviting celebrities along.
The chances are it will remain where it is though.
