I notice there was a contestant appeal for 2007 tonight, and Simon confirmed that "we'll all be back" next year.

Also there was an ad for Simon's next ITV project, "Britains Got Talent", which I believe is coming April / May time, and which Ant & Dec are apparently hosting.

Yep, they had the contestant appeal last week as well. I haven't heard any official news on its recommission and I did think that Simon wanted to end it after this year but obviously it's on its way back.

Looking forward to BGT. With A&D at the helm should be a good show.

The contestant appeal for "X Factor 2007" has been running for the past couple of weeks I think. I too have noticed the "Britains Got Talent" adverts - also the website is now up and running.

An unbelievable final and a fantastic result! Leona definitely deserved to win and I think she will be the most successful artist out of all these X Factor/Pop Idol shows.

Simon Cowell certainly had lots to smile about tonight! What with 8 million phone calls putting money into his pockets and bagging the best ever winner of the X Factor, he has much to brag about tonight!

And so will ITV - this should easily be the most watched X Factor Final out of the 3 that we have seen, as Strictly Come Dancing's final is next week. So no head to head this year! At least 14 million viewers I reckon!!!

Yep the ratings must have been brilliant - if 8-9 million people just voted, imagine how high the figures will be!

Well to be fair they had 10 million votes last year but not as many viewers. However, it benefits from not clashing with SCD this year so they may be higher. Digital Spy say it was an estimated 12 million who watched.

Estimated on what? I'd bank on higher. This is Digital Spy talking...

I haven't a clue, but the ratings have been pretty lacklustre this series - down (albeit not by much) on Series 2 if I'm correct. This has been mostly down to pretty shoddy scheduling from ITV1's part. Anyway, my point is that I don't think the ratings would have jumped too high. Probably beat last years final though so I'd say 12 million is a pretty sound estimate.

Im so glad Steve Brookstien is slagging of this show on BBC Radio right now. Its all stage managed. Im glad Leona won, but will she still be around in 2 years time? Rolling Eyes

Well she should be, not that there's any guarantee she will be. She certainly has a hugely greater chance of standing the test of time than Steve and Shayne Ward though.

Yes she certainly has a good chance of making it unlike previous winners.

WOW 12 million viewers - thats excellent ratings!

Nothing against you David, just not too keen to believe DS just yet! Laughing

Lacklustre ? It's been getting 8 - 9m viewers every Saturday, not many shows get that these days. They're not down on series 2 at all, around the same and some weeks higher.

The Final last year got 9.6m but went head to head with Come Dancing, so could get more this time around.

Hmm hopefully, they'll probably take the mick out of some real clowns (no, really) or something.

If it's that type of format they'll do great but to be honest on any serious talent contests I'd much prefer Kate to the lads. Don't know why Confused

It's not 20 million, it'll be high, but not that high, it's 2006 not 1986

Nobody knows until the Barb ratings come out.

I'm sure all the tabloids will be guessing tomorrow none the less

Lacklustre in terms of the competition - SCD managed to get over a million more viewers than X Factor last week - and I'm sure the live shows been slightly down on Series 2, apologies if I'm wrong though. My point was that I can't see it getting higher than 12 million, but certainly beating last years ratings due to the scheduling. The first show had virtually no competition except Robin Hood which is no threat.
