Re: American Idol - it's been airing on Sundays on ITV1 anyhow, though I think it did go AWOL for a few weeks when they realised they didn't actually have the terrestrial rights!

Yes but only in a Sunday afternoon slot like the repeats of X Factor. Maybe ITV could show it in a primetime slot on Saturdays in the New Year as they usually struggle to fill the schedules in Spring.

It would never happen. Who would watch a show of that nature, that you couldn't vote on? It works for a minority audience on ITV2, but not on primetime ITV1.

Well what else have ITV got to offer for a Saturday night when they dont having Dancing on Ice, X Factor and Ant and Dec? More WWTBAM?
You can still enjoy watching a tv programme without having to vote you know.
Quite frankly ITV would be better off commissioning series of Pop Idol to run in the Spring than showing American Idol - and I'm sure if Simon Cowell wasn't tied up with American Idol at that time they probably would.
Really though it's Ant and Dec who provide the most obvious solution - have them back to do a Spring run of Takeaway and then record a second series of Gameshow Marathon which could play out over the Summer.

Well Pop Idol might be returning. I think it would probably do well during the summer, even without Simon. Just depends on whether they hold on to the rights or not.
ITV have winter and Autumn sorted with Dancing On Ice capable of bringing in huge figures and The X Factor also performing very well for ITV. It's the spring, like Jez said, which is when ITV starts to lose it. With Doctor Who, ITV can never seem to do well.
ITV should think about the rest of the schedule. They'll lose against DW, but they need to think of ways to get the viewers over to ITV once DW finishes.

You're saying this on the basis that Ant & Dec don't either already have other committments or simply want a nice long Summer break.
