Two hours is far too long - it just gives the impression that ITV are completely reliant on The X Factor (which may well be right). They've clearly not learned the lessons of Bruce Forsyth's Big Night Out - people aren't going to watch the same programme for an infinite amount of time.
And it should easily beat Robin Hood - there's not the same heritage audience for that as there is for Doctor Who, which managed to pull in the old audience while playing the genius tactic of making it mainstream.
The BBC aren't daft though. They know they can win the summer ratings war by putting their biggest show out, but that Doctor Who would never be enough to beat The X Factor.

It was quite close, but Strictly Come Dancing edged the X-Factor out with 8.8m to 8.4m respectively. The SCD results show got 7.4m. Robin Hood got 8.2m compared to Ant and Dec's 7.0m. That is quite a result, but it will be interesting to see what happens next week, as those figures suggest that Robin Hood is attracting new audiences, rather than swaying Ant and Dec viewers to switch over in their droves, a bit like what happened with the early episodes of Series 1 of Doctor Who. Ant and Dec are only on for a short run this time I believe though.

Apparently X Factor did quite well last night, considering it had its toughest competition yet. I'm quite confident that it will beat Robin Hood next week. From the comments I've seen in various places, it's not been very well received, and I can't see it being as big as Doctor Who.
I may be wrong of course.

more likely that Robin Hood inherited most of the football audience. I doubt it'll maintain those figures throughout it's run.

I'm with you there. It was very clever scheduling by the Beeb, and they knew they would get big audiences because of the football. To be perfectly honest, I don't think Robin Hood will keep those figures, they'll definitely slip next week that's for sure.

Anyone know what this years stage will be like?
Will we have American Idol-style arenas with those cool and yet utterly pointless spinning pillars with the logo in neon lights?
Cowell has said that this yera it will be BIG - can we expect new titles for the live ones with a Strictly Come Dancing style opening (all the acts in the titles?)
will Ben Shepard co-host?

Ceefax was saying SCD and Robin Hood beat both X Factor and Ant and Dec's Takeaway. Be interesting to see what happens next week I agree.
Well ITV dont have soaps on a Saturday so are reliant on X Factor and Ant and Dec on Saturdays.
Ant and Dec have another 2 shows left this series I believe.

If only! I'm sure Kate's a lovely girl but I have never rated her as a presenter and Ben is significantly more genuine, funny, and charismatic than she is!
As for the length of the show, it does get annoying that in the first few weeks of the live shows, all the contestants get to sing just a verse and a chorus, with all the intros and bridges edited down to 1 bar. So in that respect, I welcome a longer running time. However I do think maybe 2 hours is pushing it a bit.

Lets hope they do get to sing more than one verse then, and the extra time is put to good use.
As for the presenters, Ben is a good looking bloke and a good presenter but I prefer Kate Thornton.

I like both presenters but I prefer Kate. Remember the time Louis wouldn't say a name and she was going barmy at him? Classic stuff.
On a presentation note, I'm hoping they change the titles. The current ones are a bit old and don't go on long enough. I'm guessing the new ones will have a blue and red colour scheme.

Yes its funny when she snaps at the judges and contestants on the live shows. But as the show is live they are obviously have to keep to time and Sharon and Louis always having trouble deciding who to vote off doesnt help matters!
I wonder if the format of the results show will be the same - 2 acts with lowest votes sing again and then the judges vote who they want to leave?
I hope they change the titles but keep the music the same.
