I think Millionaire needs a bit of a refresh. The graphics and studio are 8 years old and the format is exactly the same.

Why change a winning formula?

But isn't that it? It's no longer the winning formula because it doesn't hold my attention, nor may other people's attention, as the ratings prove. It's the weak link in ITV's Saturday night schedule, and is traditionally when viewers switch over to BBC One. It was good in its day, but its passed it now, and ITV, instead of trying to give this show a refresh, need to look for a completely new format.

The "Beat the Boys" racing segment was dropped though - presumably in response to Richard Hammond's accident this week. Ant and Dec's show though was only just over an hour long in the end - it didn't start till nearly 6.10pm either!

Presumably it was dropped before the programme was recorded so they should have been able to pad it out to the full length. The timings on ITV were totally out last night

Why? It aint as if he has died. God know what would happen if someone with more profile was in an accident.

Did they really need to blur out Sharon's mobile phone on screen when she took the call about who she would be tutoring? I'm fairly sure she was using a Motorola phone, and would suspect Nokia - X Factor sponsors - were none too pleased about it.

Indeed it was a bit pathetic wasn't it - Sharon's phone was a Motorola Razr. It didn't strike me at the time, but later on in the Xtra Factor there was some silly texting sketch which featured closeups of Nokia handsets - it was only then that the penny dropped as to why Sharon's phone had been blulrred!

Even more reason to show a Motorola phone. It's very naughty indeed to prominately feature Nokia phones in a programme sponsored by Nokia!

Sponsors shouldn't have any say over the content of programmes

The only time I see Nokia phones in the actual programme is when they do the competiion part and a Nokia phone is one of the prizes. I assume its a prize because Nokia sponsor the programme.

Haha, Laughing unfortunate that she's in bed...erm...anyway...

I don't believe when the producer phones the judges, thats the actual conversation... it just sounds too staged. I reckon they do get a phonecall but its not the same as what the viewer gets.

It does seem a little hard to believe - Simon Cowell is, after all, pretty senior in terms of production.

It would be interesting to know the logic behind the choice of category, was there a reason why Louis ended up with groups again ? Surely it would have made more sense to allocate the categories they haven't yet had.

Yes that's what I was expecting - and indeed that's what had already been revealed earlier on in this thread (from Digital Spy I think).

It takes a little bit of the credibility away when all the judges seem so obviously against doing the groups - it's the only category that's not won so far and it looks like none of the judges expect it will win either.

Interesting that Simon is the only one to mentor a category he hasnt before. I expect they gave Sharon the over 25's again and Louis the groups to stop it being predictable.

The groups are generally always the weakest category with one ot two exceptions like G4 in Series 1 and Journey South last year.

According to the Radio Times website for 7th October there is only one episode of X Factor that day and Who Wants to be a Millionaire is in the schedule later in the evening after Takeaway.
