No issues today with the problematic part. No on screen straps though obviously, makes the site look slightly bare! Amazing the difference of Danny's performance when you actually can hear what's going on.

I've just watched back the recording of the show, and without looking at it in detail it sounds like the audio frames are playing back with very short gaps between them.

The big question here is if they show recording was played as live to playout, or if they had the recordings delivered to them.

If it was delivered to playout, the issue must have been with the recorded file. Playout operate with full redundancy, in other words they would have at least 2 video servers playing the show in sync. I've no doubt playout's first resort when the issues arised would have been to flip between the two, which means both of them must have had the same audio issue, and therefore the recording was the issue.

I'm guessing it was a fast turnaround thing, being played out down the line from an edit suite or server at the venue, much like Question Time is.

X Factor won’t be rested anytime soon, they don’t have anything that could replace it, especially in the key run-up to Christmas. They’ll end up with another Dancing On Ice scenario of axing a show that doesn’t rate as well as it used to but still rated better than everything that replaced it.

The problem I have with the show these days is it’s just not fun. I somehow stumbled onto an X Factor Ukraine video a few weeks ago and interestingly their host treats it a bit more like BGMT before the acts go onto stage for their auditions. He wasn’t quite as annoying and prop-heavy as Mulhern is and it seemed to liven up proceedings a bit. Might be an interesting way of changing the show here in the future. I know ditching Dermot didn’t work last time but that was entirely because of who they replaced him with. His links can be a little lifeless these days and he barely featured before the live shows.

So tonight they will replay all 12 performances in full, have two guests and a double elimination.

I think next year is the last on the contract and surely time for both sides to move on. Ant and Dec owe ITV an extra series of SNT so that could fill early autumn before they go to Australia. I'm a Celeb itself can then be bought forward to earlier in the evening an provide 4 weekends of content to help plug the gap.

It'll probably still feel drawn out, knowing X Factor Wink

Watching the recording back from last night, where would the caption have been generated from?It didn’t use ITV Reem and was positioned quite high from the bottom of the screen.

As it apparently didn't appear in Scotland, I'm going to say ITV pres.

The problem for ITV is that XF & BGT are usually renewed together along with a talent deal for Cowell himself. They may well want to keep BGT but ditch XF although Cowell has said he has a list of other broadcasters willing to take the shows.

ITV may extend the life of XF just to keep hold of BGT and away from another broadcaster. If ITV lose BGT they lose another Ant & Dec vehicle. Then maybe they will want to do something else, somewhere else too.

So fairly high stakes and with the failure to find any new big light entertainment hits over the last decade it all has an end of an era feel about it.

So they're going to air twelve acts, the filler 'celebrity' act(s) during the voting, and eliminate two acts... in a one-hour show? Quite the opposite of the usual 'make this drag on for as long as physically possible' attitude they usually have.

Any sign of a schedule reshuffle on any of the EPG's? I guess they could run XF from 8pm rather than the scheduled 8.30pm start.

The time has been amended to finish at 9:35, it’ll still be a squeeze. Without cutting a repeat of catchphrase, the chase or tenable quite quickly I doubt that they will be able to bring it forward. There is a repeat of strangers scheduled for later this evening that could be replaced by a shorter programme so as not to encroach on Jackpot 24/7 if they wanted to extend further.

From what I've read, they keep mentioning the vote will 'open' during the show tonight, could that mean they'll do the actual results/sing off at the start of next Saturday's show instead?
