Gutted to see Dermott go, he held the show together throughout some of its really challenging times - not being specific to Louis' deadlock dilemmas. A very welcoming guy and he had the enthusiasm you want from a presenter of such a show.

Although when we speculated earlier this year I had the incline he would leave. I'd never heard him question his position before so I sensed he'd made his mind up already.

I believe he recommended Emma Willis and I really agreed with him. Right now, I don't think there is anyone like her, she's done an incredible job on Big Brother and is doing well on the Voice all the while presenting on Heart. I think she's got it, she's the sort of presenter I'd expect to take over the reins after Dermott so I'd really enjoy if she jumped ships from the Voice and came over to the X Factor. Also, timings wouldn't prevent her doing Big Brother which is another bonus.

if they were going to have another duo, Stephen Mulhern and Emma Willus are a good call for Xtra Factor.

Stephen Mulhern's never a good call for anything.

I'd just scrap The Xtra Factor altogether to be honest. The ratings for the last series were abysmal all the way through. At the end of the day you only really want to see the interviews with the acts and judges after the live shows which could easily be covered via the website, otherwise the show's just an hour of filler.

That's a good point actually and I think on the whole spin-off shows aren't as important as they once were - less is probably more. Perhaps just air it on the Sunday and have Olly and Caroline host it as well.

I used to love The Xtra Factor but I thought it went a bit downhill after Holly left after the 2009 series. The actual series in my opinion has been declining in quality since its 2010 peak.

Not XF related but in terms of spin off shows and Stephen Mulhern BGMT is on one my favourite shows especially the live shows.

It used to be but think Catchphrase has gone to his head and "unbelievable" isn't the endearing catchphrase he thinks it is.

He's had some terrible flops recently in Get Your Act Together and Reality Bites so hopefully his overuse by ITV will be ending soon enough.

Mulhern is at his best in a BGMT scenario where things often go off script and there's a good rapport with the crew. Anything else and he's nothing special. They tried to emulate it with Sunday Side Up and it fell on its arse.

It does all feel forced now - he seems to be trying too hard.

I think he's ok on Catchphrase though where he has good rapport with the contestants. There are much worse hosts around.

Regarding Xtra Factor, maybe they should run it with the same hosts as the main show, but only during the live shows, with maybe a midweek edition as well, so keeping the same number of hours but over a shorter number of months?

It just goes to highlight the complete lack of presenters around at the moment that only about half a dozen names seem to have been connected with taking over the show, and even some of them are people already hosting big shows (well, Emma Willis mainly!).

I would like to see the return of the behind the scenes reality style Xtra Factor as they had in the very early series, then perhaps the Sunday show live with Olly and Caroline (or whoever) hosting that as well. I think the problem with the Saturday show now is after two and a half hours of the live shows the last thing many people want to do is watch another hour of X Factor content. Perhaps if they keep it on Saturdays it would work better in the hour before the show rather than the hour after it.

In a way the Xtra Factor has been a victim of it's own success as many of the elements previously found there have crept into the main show, especially footage of the judges behind the scenes during auditions.
