With regards to the X Factor USA, the latest promo shots are a bit of a departure from ours. The bright colours look almost out of place next to the logo, which incidentally this year alternates between pink/blue on the posters. (the red variant is still used on the televised promotion)
It will be interesting to see how it fares against The Voice when it airs. I expect Cowell is rather hopeful of a win since the new judges undoubtedly have huge fan bases.

Apparently not, the idents still use the old opening titles

Yeah they have made a new ident with pictures and the promo but they still used the old opening titles... The one that went out introducing the x factor just a minute ago was a shirt version, the long version has the old titles

I still miss the old auditions format without the audience, it has a different atmosphere. You get to hear their voice on its own without any backing track or audience.

Interesting to see STV using an aluminium-style logo like ITV in the trailer and ident:

Is there an effect applied on the video? There's something I cant put my finger on that is different.

I preferred the auditions without the audience because you got more raw reactions from the judges. Louis & Sharon used to have me in stitches, and if anyone can remember Cheryl Cole's first year, there was an audition with a woman called Ariel which is possibly one of my favourite ever auditions. That wouldn't have been the same without an audience.

But the audience does add a different dimension to it and some of the auditions are much more enjoyable, I guess its just natural evolution for the show and if we still had the hotel rom auditions it would probably be stale by now.

Just on the topic of tonights show- Nicole is coming across very well and although I am missing Kelly, Nicole is more than filling the role and the panel looks much more relaxed.

Interesting that STV are using the metallic effect. As ITV1 has been phasing out the yellow I expected that the metallic logo was either continuing that or perhaps hinting towards the changes, but it's probably just a marketing tool for X Factor.

I think you mean it wouldn't be the same with an audience?

But yes, that's one of my favourite auditions as well. The expressions in that audition from the judges are hilarious.

In my defence I'm watching this to see the presentation around the programme, but how staged was that hissy fit?

By the way, did anyone hear that gentle ribbing of The Voice during Louis' interview? "It's not just about th voice, it's about the performance, the persona, everything that makes up The X Factor" and something like "others have tried but The X Factor is still the best for discovering new talent".
