I think last night's episode was the first to feature product placement. Presumably provided by Virgin Atlantic and possibly Samsung with those tablet computers.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them strike a deal with someone like Volvic ahead of next weeks live shows.

The deal is with Samsung.

No major set changes this year, although they've finally tweaked it. They have massive screens at each side replacing the tower things that used to be there. They project the judges faces onto them (like in America) but they mirror one of the images so it looks symmetrical and that annoys me.

The stairs also look a little bit more curved this year, perhaps the centre screen has been moved back, there is also an extended walkway behind the judges. I was expecting a new set this year but fully understand if they've postponed any plans due to the way this years ratings have gone (and they can 'relaunch' next year).

Nicole did a good job too, some funny comments but she could have the tendency to become annoying. Much better than she was in the auditions anyway.

I'm glad I wasnt the only one expecting a new set this year, a little disappointed to see the same one, but the tweaks do look good.
Its very much like the previous 'wide' set when it got tweaked for its third year in a row with more emphasis on the strip lights edging the LED screens.

Yeah, it does appear to have gone American X Factor in a way, and it does appear to have grown 'taller'.

Very nice addition of the rail camera they utilised at the final in Wembley last December.

The use of 'Read All About It' by Emeli Sande is getting tad annoying however.

Has anyone noticed that the bed used when the acts leave the stage still doesnt match the refreshed opening title music?

Unfortunately, they didn't update the music package with the new tracks that have been created for the US X Factor... Sad

I hope that the 5 screen can be opened, not just the middle one and one on each side.

Well that was entirely predictable.

Well that was entirely predictable.

Indeed. Clearly planned out. But I must admit highly entertaining.

Bet it wouldn't have been sent to deadlock had Rylan had the lowest amount of votes.

Clearly fixed as when Louis said that he wanted to send Carolynne through, Dermot asked whether that was correct, that he was sending Rylan home. Louis then changed his mind, sending it through to deadlock.

Also someone tapped Louis on the shoulder, I very much expect they want loads of headlines this week with people saying the show is fixed.

This was during Caroline's (is that her name? I've forgotten her already) performance and is infuriating Twitter! Laughing

Hilarious and car crash TV. Does anyone still believe that was all real? I've never quite seen anything like that display tonight and it has turned into a parody of itself. Looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds. Katie Waissel v2.0 or will he be out next week?

I totally agree it is the same old X Factor. Remember, it is not a singing competition it’s an entertainment show so the situation was highly predictable. I am sure the controversy will generate lots of headlines and coverage over the next week saying the usual 'It's was a Fix'.

In the past, controversy definitely boosted the show's ratings and kept viewers entertained. However, with ratings well down with average ratings being 18-21% lower compared to last year with SCD just beating X Factor (excluding +1) overnight figures last night. Will this controversy actually drive more viewers away from the programme as viewers become bored with its predictability during the live shows?

It is important to note that last year ratings were just below 2010 levels then experienced a notable decline as the live shows went on.
