I imagine that if it is true, that they will try to make a big thing out of Danni vs Sharon etc again.

I've heard a couple of times that apparently there are going to be 2 "helpers" at each of the judge's houses.

If true, personally I think that the Sharon Osbourne news is good - I always liked her on the show and think that she and Louis are pretty funny together. Should certainly create (even more!) publicity for X Factor although I'm guessing the chances of Sharon meeting Dannii Minogue will be quite slim - I guess they'll be kept on opposite sides of the world for Judges' Houses.

The groups must be good then this year!

Dannii screwed over again I see!

Saying that, there's supposed to be an over-28 this year who is massively favourite to win, who's not been on the show yet. She'll be more popular than SuBo, so I've read!

Nobody's picked up on the shocking use of auto tune on the auditions then?

They mentioned it on GMTV this morning.

I thought one of them had a autotuney sound to their voice, wonder how they got into the auditions.

ITV confirmed this morning that audio is "subject to editing" - read: vo-coding and autotune - before broadcast, but that "the judges make their decision based on what they hear live".

What a crock. A singing competition that re-tunes the contestants for the public and then asks them to pay money to vote?

It absolutely disgusting.

An article in today's Daily Express says that there is a possibility that Ofcom could be interested in investigating previous series of the X-Factor:

Quote:
“It [Auto-Tune] doesn’t raise any issues under our Broadcasting Code,” he said. “What would be an issue is if, when the public starts to vote, some contestants are given that technology and others aren’t. Then it would be a problem.” Although Ofcom has received no complaints about previous series, critics suggest the rot may have set in during series six.

That was when contestants were first required to perform their initial audition before a microphone, which would make manipulation easier. If such a practice can be shown to have influenced viewer voting, it could herald a new embarrassment along the lines of the premium-rate phone line scandal that hit ITV three years ago.

“If there is any evidence to suggest that Auto-Tune was used in past series in such a way as to materially mislead the audience, Ofcom will of course assess this under the Broadcasting Code,” the spokesman said.

I think the re-tune and what they said about the normal editing process is quite just in the way it ensures the viewers get the best quality. It is a little absurd as you would "hear" the singing and you want it to be as pure as possible but I suppose it's for the viewers benefit?

Benefit the viewer how? Hearing a pitch perfect song for "entertainment only" is one thing - so wouldn't be out of place on Tonight's the Night.

But for a singing competition that operates a premium vote line and nets them millions of pounds a series? Er...

That's something of a red-herring. Microphones have always been in use, otherwise the viewer wouldn't hear anything.

The difference is that they used to hang a boom over their head instead of having a mic on a stand in front of them.

You can autotune either.
