11.5 million last night was the average including HD. The peak was 13 million. Seems low in comparison to previous shows. They put Ann on at 7.28 last night on Strictly which undoubtedly affected X Factor's ratings. Strictly ratings are climbing.
The quantity of conestants must be a factor in X Factor not maintaing the judges houses scale viewers. The wildcard element was unsuccessful, it would seem.

2nd live show last year averaged 10.9m, peaking at 11.4m in a 2 hour slot. This year, the equivalent show was 30 minutes longer, and it gained a bigger audience.
You know when they recap the performances, in between each clip there's an X flash, on a black background. Is it me or is this being incorrectly implemented, and instead of black it should be video? Creating a transition?
AIUI the recaps are done on an EVS LSM device - which is a playout/record server also used for fast turnaround sports highlights and quick in-server edits.
I think it only supports cut and mix as transitions on playlists or edits internally - no wipes or keys.
Therefore if you are transitioning between clips within the EVS (whether these are performance or stings) you can't do a key or a wipe within the device, just a cut or mix.
You CAN start and end the replay sequence with a sting that has chroma-key elements within it (i.e. green/blue/magenta elements that you replace with live video) that can be keyed on the transmission vision mixer though, so you get a funky transition to and from the clip - you just don't get the same funky transitions WITHIN the clip.
Is it just me, or does this year's show feel like an absolute replica of Peter Kay's parody? Except less funny, of course.
It all seems so dull and scripted - the audience f*ck me off with their constant boos over constructive criticism (although I suspect that's down to the Goebbels of a floor manager, whoever the little rodent is) and all the contestants seem to have been celebrities before they even got anywhere near the live shows. I'm BORED.

But you'd agree that the way the stings are designed would suggest they were meant to be a transition rather than a flash?

I think it's a classic issue of ratings last year basically being hyped up as more than they actually were, and hence when we see this years figures - still way more than anything on TV - and they seem disappointing.
When the contestants sing their joint song in the results show do they mime?
A couple of times throughout the performance it looked a bit dodgy with lips out of sync and singing when the mic is nowhere near them. Might just be me

They've lip-synced the group song since week 2 of the live shows last year. The first one WAS live, but a couple of them went out of tune so badly (especially the very first line by Danyl), so producers obviously decided not to risk them cocking up again....

Yeah I did feel they were hyped up last year, the peak was mentioned a lot.
There's still about 6 terrible acts left. Does anyone know if they will have 4 finalists this year?
