In what way was it the worse? It was the same as always apart from Cheryl replacing Sharon as a judge.Cheryl is a breath of fresh air on the panel IMO.
Also as Simon was mentor to Leona he was always more likely to mention her than Leon. And she has had more success than Leon so far.
Nick who used to be in Pop Stars The Rivals (loved that show!), shame they didnt put him through to Boot Camp, his voice wasnt that bad. Also wasnt he in a band called Phixx or something - how come no mention of that?

Didn't deserve 10.2m at all - might be the most watched launch, but was one of the worst IMO.

Yep - surprised there was no mention of Phixx (who were the 5 male rejects). But was that because they were more successful than the 5 final blokes - who flopped as One True Voice?

Considering all said and done Popstars: The Rivals did in the end produce a very successful group it is a shame it never got another series. After all, even One True Voice were more successful than either of the bands manufactured by The X Factor last year.
I wonder too if they're considering that this year considering they said to Nikk he was too old to be put into a boyband.

I think it's ridiculous how they use the old age excuse. Isn't he only 24?

I heard there was a plan to alternate Popstars and Pop Idol each year (and it did happen from 2000-2003) but Cowell came along with X Factor, and now here we are coming into the fifth series.
Also did anyone notice Austin something on last nights show? He was in E4's Boys will be Girls, made up of flop boyband members, but what band was he in?

I thought I recognised Austin from somewhere. The band was called The Honeytraps.

Did anyone else feel it was rather inappropriate for them to make a link between the contestant from Bridgend and the spate of suicides in the town?
I know contrived sob stories are a staple of the audition process, but suggesting that a girl getting through to the second round of a reality show might somehow make up for the tragic deaths of so many young people just seems, well, a trifle crass.

Yes. After there being just one solo under 16 who struggled to balance everything and gave crap performances when she was capable of so much more (Emily), I thought they would've raised it again.
I don't think it was completely inappropriate, just a little irrelevant. Sob stories are just a part of X Factor and it was said after all the bad press she wants them to have a bit of good press for a change.

Is the lower age limit still 14?

But it's the fact it's irrelevant which makes it so inappropriate.
It's as if they were struggling for a sob story, and given there were no personal tragedies in her life they could feature, they thought they'd exploit the misery of her local community instead.
And I don't believe for a moment it was her idea to feature this.
