As a final note, I thought Simon knew something about music? Calling Mariah the best artist ever is ridiculous.

Yeah he has obviously forgotten Leona Lewis. The talent that he and Sinita discovered, or has he started ignoring her now that she didn't win at the EMAs or the Brits and isn't looking likely to get Number 1 this week.

No, I was thinking someone a bit more worthwhile than Leona Lewis... someone like Streisand.

Err - the show has never had an ounce of credibility... Popstars and Pop Idol had a teeny amount of it - but X Factor?

Sure Leona Lewis has been created by the franchise - but one swallow does not a summer make...

Out of all the TV singing talent shows - apart from the BBC musical theatre ones (which have boosted a large number of careers) - Will Young, Girls Alous and Leona Lewis, and possibly Lemar, are the only major successes.

Michelle McManus, Steve Brookstein, Shayne Ward, Alex Parks, David Sneddon - hmm...

People featured in the shows have gone on to have varying degrees of success afterwards I agree - but I don't think - Leona excepted - that credible and The X Factor are ever really associated with each other.

The interesting thing is the number of Maria and Joseph (too early to talk about Nancy) finalists have gone on to to decent things in the West End or touring productions (though some of them already had credible careers - albeit in a struggling actor/actress sense - beforehand)

Before going off on a tangent about past winners of similar formats, perhaps you should have noted "any ounce of credibility the show has left " Wink

The show has never had any credibility and nor has the format. It goes down more and more each year as X Factor becomes more of a pantomime with viewers now more concerned about getting one over on the judges.

As you've said once in a while we do see a genuine talent and someone who has longevity in the charts, Leona and Girls Aloud being our two best examples. But because Leona has been recent and has had so much success on both sides of the Atlantic, I genuinely believe that if Leona hadn't won then the show wouldn't be as popular as it is. I think if the right person wins this year (Diana, Alexandra or even JLS) I think we may have another success. Otherwise we probably won't get anything for another couple of years.

Ruth again did an absolutely fantastic performance in the sing off. I'm not her biggest fan but its showing how much the themes are ruining some of the acts. Both of her bottom 2 performances are the two best of this series IMO. Noone tries harder than her and I think I might actually send a vote her way next week- she deserves it!

This Diana will she/won't she sing business has happened before although last time when it happened and it affected the show was Rick Waller on Pop Idol and he got replaced in the end with the person last booted off which was Darius.

To me, it seems unfair whilst cruel to be ill but it benefits her by staying an extra week and what happened to Mariah Carey, killing one of her own songs. Why can't these divas sing normally instead of sounding like someone is prodding them with a stick whilst singing.

Mariah had one bad night, she's still a star as Simon pointed and one of the best singers ever.

Disgrace and a farce that Daniel and Rachel were kept in.

No, she didn't have one bad night. She is, as someone once said, more impressive than expressive - she's just awful.

I think Rachel suffered because of nerves, but she should definitely be kept in. She's got abetter voice than whiny Diana.

Totally disagree with that. I still fail to see the appeal of Rachel, that all the judges seem to see, I just don't think she's unique in the slightest.

Daniel should have been out last night, it should have been either Rachel and Daniel or Daniel and Eoghan in my opinion in the bottom two.

It is showing that these themes aren't working at all, and I agree with Danni when on the Xtra Factor she asked if that could be the last week for the judges to vote somebody off. I did think it was unfair of them to take it to Louis again for the casting vote, but what do you do when you have two of the better singers in the bottom two, one has to go.

And what were the reports in the papers that the judges were on about to Rachel? Was it just the story of her and Danni's differences?

Maybe you just don't like Mariah. She has a brilliant voice.

It's half way into the competition and talking about nerves! No, she's been given ample chances has Rachel, she deserves to go. Laura did not deserve to go last night.

IMO Daniel wasn't the worst and rightly wasn't in the bottom two. Rachel should have been in the bottom two and all the judges knew it after she had performed as nobody really criticised her and kept asking the public to keep her in.

Also from the Hero video i'm pretty sure that Cowell and the producers have chosen Alexandra to win.

I don't think she has. She's had a raft of terrible songs chosen by her waste of space mentor. She needs a great jazz song like she had in Jazz week when she was at her absolute best.

And you're right, I don't like Mariah. Because she's terrible. As I've said before, look elsewhere, look at the TRUE talents - the Shirley Basseys, the Barbra Streisands. Carey just doesn't compare, even with her songwriting - I've seen better Eurovision songs.

I fail to see the appeal of Diana though. Rachel for me is a much stronger vocalist than Diana, who CAN'T SING.

Rachel allegedly mugged an old woman when she was 18. She died 3 years ago but her husband sold her story but said that he holds no grudges and if she has said she has changed we have to believe her. Unfortunately the way in which the headline was written was as though it had just happened, and it was front page too so a lot of viewers will have just seen the front page.

The fact that 4 out of 7 songs performed last night were covered by Mariah says it all really.
