Oh great - next week we have to put up with mini-Mariah then!

So Danni is the last judge to keep all her acts, even though two of them should be long gone. Surprised they gave Louis the deciding vote again tonight - if it had gone the other way I wonder if Simon might have sent it to deadlock.

I do think though out of the girls Laura is the weak link - she kind of suffered from a brilliant start which makes it look like she peaked to soon while Alex and Diana went from strength to strength - and I think the show really missed Diana tonight. Definitely the worst show of the series so far.

Moyles' campaign to keep Daniel in worked a treat then Laughing

Judges and Holly are now moaning at us, the audience, for not voting for the talent. Simon's disappeared, probably stormed off to find out why the voting went so wrong!

Which is exactly why people don't take this show seriously anymore. It's become a farse. To quote Echo and the Bunnymen, nothing lasts forever.

... and any ounce of credibility the show has left has just been flung out the window.

Voters need to get a grip. It was funny the first couple of weeks when there were enough rubbish acts to send home but its gone beyond a joke now.

Oh and sorry for two posts in a row but I think this is worthy of its own post, not to be edited in. Just on Xtra Factor Diana was seen screaming and shouting on Bonfire Night. Apparently she was diagnosed with laryngitis at the start of the week. So either X Factor or Xtra Factor are deceiving the viewers. Thats 2 credibility blows in one night Laughing

No, perhaps the smoke and generally Diana's misuse of her voice (which is truly awful) contributed to her laryngitis.

She was supposed to have lost her voice on Tuesday. Bonfire night was Wednesday. Laryngitis isn't something that just suddenly comes on either, she will have had a mildly sore throat for a couple of days before whilst it builds up gradually.

Yes, I do know this, but Diana seems to have little regard for her instrument at all. She permanently sounds croaky (even before her laryngitis) and sings from the throat.

My verdict on tonight (if it means anything)?

I'm glad Laura went for a few reasons. I found her voice, while powerful, very oppressive, and it lacked the quality of someone like Ruthie Henshall or another powerful alto/sop, with a very mechanical vibrato (that thing where musicians vibrate/move the pitch of their note) which sounded quite piercing, and some of the worst diction I've ever heard (I didn't understand a word of her Jazz week song).

The other reason is that with Laura out of the way, there will be the possibility for the other females to shine. The judges always seemed to pour praise into Laura and that must have left the others short (not including Diana). Perhaps now we'll see Rachel gain her confidence back and Alexandra go for something a little more challenging.

I didn't think Daniel did that badly tonight. He picked a nice song that complemented his voice and although it wasn't the best vocal, it was pleasant to the ear. Rachel's lack of confidence seemed to affect her performance and seemed to leave her very nervous - but I hope she returns to full power next week. Eoghan was OK - I don't really rate him. JLS are very quickly proving their place as one of the best bands XF has ever had - great performance tonight. Ruth did very well, as did Alexandra. I suppose with someone as mediocre as Mariah to follow, though, they can't really measure up to much.

As a final note, I thought Simon knew something about music? Calling Mariah the best artist ever is ridiculous.

Yeah he has obviously forgotten Leona Lewis. The talent that he and Sinita discovered, or has he started ignoring her now that she didn't win at the EMAs or the Brits and isn't looking likely to get Number 1 this week.

Err - the show has never had an ounce of credibility... Popstars and Pop Idol had a teeny amount of it - but X Factor?

Sure Leona Lewis has been created by the franchise - but one swallow does not a summer make...

Out of all the TV singing talent shows - apart from the BBC musical theatre ones (which have boosted a large number of careers) - Will Young, Girls Alous and Leona Lewis, and possibly Lemar, are the only major successes.

Michelle McManus, Steve Brookstein, Shayne Ward, Alex Parks, David Sneddon - hmm...

People featured in the shows have gone on to have varying degrees of success afterwards I agree - but I don't think - Leona excepted - that credible and The X Factor are ever really associated with each other.

The interesting thing is the number of Maria and Joseph (too early to talk about Nancy) finalists have gone on to to decent things in the West End or touring productions (though some of them already had credible careers - albeit in a struggling actor/actress sense - beforehand)
