I am a fan of the X Factor, but I have to agree that from the first live show they seem more over produced than ever, but saying that they have got a 2 hour slot to fill. They've always had 12 acts in the finals, and I'm sure that even though over an hour the programme is never usually 2 hours long, or am I wrong?

I ended up at a house party last night where the X Factor was on, and there were even calls for Holly to present the main show and for Dermot to do the spin off. I must admit I do expect more from him after his BBLB days, but saying that he doesn't get to have any input I presume.

Awful, awful, awful. What a rubbish first week. None of the acts were any good.

How can you say this...it was great entertainment, and Holly well she is perfect to present the xtra factor full of energy incredible confidence and gorgeous with that red dress

Both shows are excellently produced the looks reactions comments and totally individual performances all make it gel together perfectly

I thought that the sound was not too good on the shows.

Also it was noticeable that yet again Louis invests his time in one act at the expense of the others. Also with his comments about Danni Minogue being sacked (in the press) he rubbished all her acts. He knows how to win support.

It's been two hours for the last couple of years.

One thing I miss, especially for the first show, is the introduction of the contestants at the beginning. Obviously they make no pretence that the show is about the contestants, but even if not for the viewer, surely it's good for the acts to get their feet on the stage before they have to go back and perform.

The "DEADLOCK" was very funny, hopefully they've realised when the audience unintentionally starts laughing that they've taken it too far.

One problem with Dermot is the determination to get the reaction and comments from singers straightaway. I'm sure someone's barking in his ear to do it but they need to appreciate that contestants will generally try to comfort the loser. They also need to have some reserve sentences ready for when he's got to pad it out a bit, throwing over to Louis was rubbish - he couldn't really give any more advice!

Certainly good Saturday night television though, even if it is as predicable as anything.

Completely agree Asa. One idea might be perhaps to throw to Holly backstage with some of the acts that have got through and get a quick word from them instead - plus a plug for The Xtra Factor.

Does anyone know why The Xtra Factor wasn't repeated later on? It was listed in the EPG, and the intro and even the sponsor stings were correct, but they showed an old Britain's Got More Talent instead. A mistake, or was there any reason it couldn't be repeated?

Rather odd - can't think of anything in it which warranted the repeats being pulled.

Talking of The Xtra Factor, I do miss the Friday editions they had in previous series which were far better for getting behind the scenes - and seemed to have more of a purpose than the Saturday shows, which although they do their job, are basically just filler.

Was'nt there a 'there is a problem...' caption minutes before it was due to be shown ?

I agree on this, though it's the same with BBLB, they seem to be a second show now rather than being the backstage show, which was always more interesting.

The best part of Britain's Got More Talent was the first part with Stephen roaming around the set, talking to the contestants, Ant & Dec and then having quite a long chat with the judge's each night, but would a whole backstage show like this pull in the same ratings?

I think so. I think the problem with these shows - BBLB especially - is after a while they forget they're for the fan of the show and try to make their appeal a bit broader, and hence people turn off.

Not really an issue with The Xtra Factor, but the preview show on Fridays offered much more than the Saturday shows, going behind the scenes at the sound checks and talking to the "junior" judges who tended to be on set, plus reveal song choices and rehearsal footage. IIRC for one year at least they also had a midweek show too.

Anyhow, as for Xtra Factor - glad they're back overlooking the studio - IIRC last year they were kicked out into another studio somewhere.
