I don't think it was completely inappropriate, just a little irrelevant. Sob stories are just a part of X Factor and it was said after all the bad press she wants them to have a bit of good press for a change.

But it's the fact it's irrelevant which makes it so inappropriate.

It's as if they were struggling for a sob story, and given there were no personal tragedies in her life they could feature, they thought they'd exploit the misery of her local community instead.

And I don't believe for a moment it was her idea to feature this.

Oh I think it probably was. Otherwise you'd be relying on a 20 something year old researcher/runner to have a knowledge of the ghoulish history of that particular town - and I doubt they would.

Its more likely to have been an answer to the, "Why do you think you should win the X-Factor?" question on the application form.

Her song (Fields of Gold) was very fitting though. Anyway you don't know if she had friends that may have killed themselves. They probably would have mentioned it but they might save that for bootcamp ...

Yes, because that would be tasteful, wouldn't it?

Does anyone know if The X Factor will have new opening titles or a new set when the live shows start this year?

I hope they have a new set. I liked the current set during series 3 but last year it just looked really dated. Having said that I also really liked the simplicity of the set used in series 2, but the series 1 set was awful, they completely overdid the theme of X throughout the studio.

I doubt they could afford a new set this year.

Didn't the set cost a million pounds, or have I dreamt that up?

The problem for me is the fact that the current set is very impressive, but for me it makes the studio seem so much smaller, especially when compared to the original set, and series 2 set, and even more so when compared to the Britain's Got Talent set, that seems to have a lot going on with the stairs, the presenting perches, and still has a massive stage.

I'm sure I also read that the current set was made smaller so that they could get more people in the audience, now to me when you saw the audience on BGT and the size of their set I thought that it worked brilliantly. Maybe it isn't the size, maybe it's how wide the set is that makes it seem smaller.

As much as I think the above, I still think it's a lovely set, my only other issue is that they stop using blue so much. The set can have a colour running above the screens, through the screens, and then through the floor, but most of last year they opted for blue, except for one performance where the whole set turned green, that looked lovely in my opinion.

Most papers today are reporting that the girl from Bridgend is claiming ITV did put pressure on her to talk about the suicides, with ITV of course denying it.

Probably depends how the question was put to her.. she just mentions "bad press" then of course ITV, as usual, milk the editing.

Hmmm - not much discussion on this so far. Opinions? I am really liking Cheryl (not just because she is eye candy)! To be honest, think Sharon was getting a bit boring - and last year I think she lost it completley - the whole Danni feud cause a lot of damage to her image in my opinion. How many weeks of auditions left? any ideas?

Anyone else absolutely loving Holly Willoughby on Xtra Factor? I think she's ace, never really noticed her before this.
