I've always prefered the X-Factor to Pop Idol, but the latter had better graphics and a very catchy theme tune.

On the whole I think The X Factor is a far better format than Pop Idol, but one thing I liked about Pop Idol was the structure of having a theme to each week.

Indeed, but personally I preferred Pop Idol's. Will Pop Idol be making a come-back or has The X-Factor taken it's place?

I agree about Simon. I really dont think he cares as much this year, he won last year and I dont think he really cares if he wins or not this year. Louis is so annoying though, and im just sorry that my fave act Shayne's mentor is Louis.
I agree, the X Factor is a far better format than Pop Idol. And I much prefer Kate Thornton rather than Ant and Dec who used to annoy me a bit on Pop Idol.

Disagree with you about Sharron's hair - thought it looked awful, though she did look younger in a California plastic surgery type of way!
As for Chico - how he got through the first audtion I don't know, he truly was awful! He got through to the live shows though based on his performance rather than singing, but looking at Sharron tonight she seemed embarrassed to be associated with him! He'll stick around for a couple of weeks though until the non-entities have all gone - or Simon gets the casting vote!
A few comments on the show. I've mentioned the stage, but also I didn't like the theme they used to introduce each contestant - they have a great theme themselves, use it!
And as with last year, alot of acts performed bad songs, and credit to Simon for admitting it (he did look like though he really didn't want to be there!).

I imagine X Factor is the new generation of Pop Idol. It would be confusing and bad for ITV's reputation if they were to bring back another reality format.

Yes and I cant imagine Kate Thornton going back to present the Extra series on ITV2, not now she is an ITV1 Presenter.

Pop Idol has effectively been axed - the official line is that there are no plans at the moment for another series. Series 3 of The X Factor has been commissioned though.
One of the main advantages is they can run The X Factor alongside Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway and build up a decent Saturday night schedule. If A&D are doing Pop Idol, ITV have to find something else to fill the early evening slot!

I do think they need to show the X Factor in the 7pm slot though, it more suited to that slot than 6pm.
As for Sharon's hair, well she looks 10 years younger now.

Sharon's hair is too big and unnaturally balanced now for my liking.
Looks like Shayne will go far then. He's similar to Shane Lynch from Boyzone fame. ( I think).

Im backing Journey South or Shayne to win - even though Shayne is one of Louis' acts but this is about the contestants not the judges. Journey South were given a crap song by Simon though, but they pulled it off.
What did everyone think about Kate Thornton's presenting last night? I thought she did OK, I didnt notice her having to shout at the contestants or the judges last night like she often did last year. They seemed to go off air before she had finnished talking in the results show though and she gave the wrong time for the start of the ITV2 show.

OK, yes, he's nice to look at... but Shayne's performance was, to me, the most effortless. He has a really clear voice and he didn't hit a wrong note once. Phillip is a good singer but will have to get some confidence from somewhere because that's what he was lacking last night. Journey South are also very good, and Brenda's got a fantastic voice.
Addictiv Ladies were rubbish, and had been since they first appeared and it was right that they left.
