It's the best result for Andy really. Andy isn't a pop star but he will do well in the genre his voice suits and will have a few successful albums no doubt.

As for Andi Peters pressing the button to create the first CD. Well, that's the kiss of death if ever there was one.

I'm pretty certain that smashes the previous tv voting record by quite some millions.

Andi Peter's has just pressed the button to start production of the Winners CD Single. ooops... are they sure it's Shayne's CD running?
Now that would be funny.....

They're pulling out all the stops to make it the Christmas number 1.

Hmm...

Mind you, Steve Brookstein's single was Against All Odds and compared to You're My Goal - AAO was rubbish. (my opinion).

What a brilliant show. I mean, it's through and through entertainment, and it's really captured the nation.

Will be interesting to see the viewing figures.

Well The X Factor must have had more viewers than strictly come dancing . As they only had 5 Million votes.

The X Factor generation though are far more likely to vote (more than once!).

Great winner - just releived Andy didn't win. I was worried when he wasn't eliminated, but I think those voting for Journey South were far more likely to cross to Shane than Andy. And having them sing the same song just showed how much better Shane was!

I think Shane should do alright - and Louis Walsh has a proven history. If he can keep Girls Aloud going for three years, Shane should be fine!

I would imagine X Factor would have beaten SCD in the ratings but an X Factor audience is much more likely to vote than the SCD one. Plus of course 10.8M votes does not indicate 10.8M people (BBC News Online, take note).

Can't wait for Jez to come on. Laughing

And Brekkie you are spot on - Louis may be a prat but he's a bloody good manager. He's proved that with Westlife, Girls Aloud etc etc. He knows what he's doing, he's been referring to Shayne by his full name to set everything up. It's very clever.

Over on DS there are cries of a fix which makes me laugh. Of course it's not a fix, for God's sake. I don't think they're even allowed to fix it, because it's public money being spent on votes and it must go as the public say.

Also, I don't think all of the "there's 0.25% in it" is fake either. Again, I don't think they can lie. It was just very close and that's understandable; I could have seen all of those in the final three going on to win.

Not the biggest fan of Shayne here. Really wanted Andy to win!

On ratings, I have a feeling The X Factor won because it started earlier. Voting numbers mean nothing, I'm sure more votes were cast on The X Factor last year too.

Don't see how that follows - aren't the voting lines open all week, and doesn't X Factor have a younger audience that is more likely to phone vote?

I'd expect the audience figures to be quite close, and certainly not differ in the same proportion as the claimed voting levels.

(Worth pointing out that the BBC raised significant amounts for Children in Need from the SCD votings, The X Factor income presumably made significant amounts for ITV or SyCo?)
