IMO the worst act was voted off tonight. Phillip was dreadful, Chico wasn't any better - I think he's next to go.

Shayne - could have been better
Nicholas - performance was flat and dull
Brenda - brilliant diva
Conway Sisters - amazing
Journey South - cool
Chenai - rubbish
Andy - not the best song I'm afraid
Maria - WOW!!

Simon made a good decision in terms of entertainment value and to keep the viewers watching.

And I suppose from Simon's point of view Chico is less competition for his own acts than Phillip would be. I suppose he thought he'd get rid of Phillip while he had the chance.

If someone had told Simon two weeks ago he'd be putting Chico through tonight, he'd never have believed it! This was Chico's worst performace so far though!

Good job the Conways weren't in the bottom two - I think against either Chico or Phillip Simon would have lost his third act in the row!

As for Phillip - it's not a case of wrong songs, it's the wrong mentor. He and Louis are on completly different wavelengths. Louis sees him as Cilff Richards or Shakin' Stevens - and Phillip certainly doesn't! It have been interesting to see Phillip partnered up with Sharron.

And no visible change in format - on Teletext earlier this week Mr Cowell said their would be a small change to make it fairer - perhaps he was told who got the least votes!

Not as great a show tonight either - last week we had 7 or 8 good performances, this week there was nothing above average. It was nice to have a final two that really could have gone either way.

And is it just me who doesn't understand why Andy is so highly rated?

No I dont get what they all see in him either. He seems nice enough and has a good voice but I can see him being Steve II if he wins.

I'm still not convinced that ITV haven't 'suggested' to the judges that Chico might make good entertainment and and light relief for the viewers. Again definately not a winner, but a diversion from the acts who are taking the show seriously.

There should have been a different winner last year. You hardly hear anything from Steve, the last time he released an album was months ago and it's nearly a year now since he won.

Why should ITV 'suggest' it to the judges??

Simon knows what makes good TV, it is his production company that makes it.
He's a very clever man, is Mr Cowell. The nicest man you could possibly meet too. I agree with his decision tonight, although the papers will know say that it was revenge on Louis...

Shayne's performance was fantastic tonight, Summer of '69 is quite a tough song to do.

Sorry if I have dragged up an old thread...

I like Shayne. Rather a lot actually. But I didn't like his performance of "Summer of 69". There was nothing wrong with the way he sung it, it was just that it didn't suit his voice.

Phillip's choice of song probably put him out last night. He wasn't very good last week, but this week's performance was better. The problem was again the choice of song, which could not demonstrate anyone's vocal talent particularly well.

I think Chico is a great performer, but not a good singer. Maria was fantastic last night, as was Brenda, and The Corrs-Alikes. Personally I'd have put Chenai out, because I think we've seen as much as she can do and it's nothing special. Plus she sounds like Chorlton (of The Wheelies fame) when she's not singing.

Yep I have to agree with Simon - he can act like a cock sometimes but he usually speaks the truth it has to be said. Maybe the other guy is a better singer but Chico is more entertaining.

I noticed that once again the montages used after the performances were not from the live show but presumably the afternoon rehearsals - this week they just consisted of straight-on rostrum shots, no technocranes or anything - presumably so we can't see the empty auditorium. Or maybe the crane-ops weren't even there for some reason. I'm sure in previous series of shows of this type they've used clips from the live programme (with the possible exception of the last one).

The hype about Andy is because he's the best singer - whether he can sell the records is of course a completely different matter but he has a beautifully effortless delivery. Wasn't mad about that choice of song though.

Very Happy Brenda all the way! Some personality on stage is so refreshing.

I really hate Chico; I don’t find him entertaining in the slightest.

He was dropped by his record label and can currently be seen touring Butlins. A-hem... Rolling Eyes
