Pop Idol was better than both of them and yet ITV seem to think that X Factor has a better format than Idol? Everyone know's it is scripted!

What ITV need to do is rest the format of both PI/XF and WWTBAM... they are supposedly in the "Event TV" category and yet they are on every week... who actually makes time to watch WWTBAM now? People used to talk about it, now it's no more important than an any other show which is a real shame.

That's greedy ITV for you....

in 1998 yes. They talk about The X Factor now!

Isn't it funny, the original poster asked where WWTBAM was, and all he got was that it should be axed and that its on too often now!

Just shows that people have mixed opinions!

Personally, as WWTBAM is on every week from September to around May, this break is welcome, I'm sure it'll be back soon and then on every week until some starts a thread saying that it should take a break!

Well, at least it is going to return then! But it would be good if it was on a different night of the week rather than a Saturday all the time.

But shame on the BBC for axing Winning Lines if they have. I'd much rather watch that, rather than seeing Eamonn "I eat loads of pies I do" Holmes having a 2nd bonus run of Jet Set for another 6 weeks.

Oh well, might as well just turn the television off I suppose after TXF has finished this Saturday. Or go out for a few swift pints! Laughing

Trouble is Millionaire has lost the suspense aspect it once had. There have been too many 'celebrity' specials and too many thick people in recent months. Laughing Rolling Eyes

Shame Winning Lines has gone! That was one of the BBC Lottery's longest running quiz shows. To me the Simon Mayo era was equally as good as Schofield's reign. Incidently the theme music was composed by the same brothers who did 'Millionaire'.

I have to agree, I'm getting fed up with Eammon 'podgy pies' Holmes now. As for Mark Burdening-Whiff - get away from TV Centre!

Bring Back Red Alert with Lulu and Terry! Laughing *jokes* (I found the first promo for that on my Morning with Neighbours video from October 1999!)

The telephone numbers part of the concept was similar, but Talking Telephone Numbers was a variety show, with each act 'generating' a number usually through some fairly ridiculous means, with only the last bit of the show - once the number had been generated - being a 'game show' - or, rather, a phone in quiz.

The game itself was new to Winning Lines, which (incidently) had a short run over in the US as well.

So let's get this straight:

WWTBAM = Who wants to be a millionaire
PI = Pop Idol
TXF = The X Factor

In bloody future, don't be so bloody arrogant to abbreviate the show. It may save you time, but it took me 10 minutes to decipher what the acronym stood for, and I'm sure plenty of other people did too.

Well, it's not that difficult to decipher considering we are talking about WWTBAM, PI and TXF is it now??? Laughing

If you want to be precise though, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire should be abbreviated to WWTBAM? and keep the question mark in although arguably, the question mark isn't actually on the show's titles.

According to the early schedules that Millionaire is set to return next Saturday (29th October). While Chris Tarrant will be appearing on Parkinson this Saturday (22nd October)

I read also that the first proper Millionaire of the new series will be live.

Incidently, DS is reporting Australia have had their first Millionaire champion after years on air!
