''Saudi government actively promoted and supported the beoutQ pirate operation since its beginning''

What a great outcome by the World Trade Organisation for promoting sport rights through legal channels.

I wonder if this may affect the vague proposals to stage Joshua vs Fury in Saudi Arabia.

UFEA have put out a statement on the beoutQ ruling.

Quote:
"UEFA welcomes the World Trade Organisation report and its conclusions. What is clear is that beoutQ’s broadcasts constitute piracy of UEFA’s matches and as such, are illegal.

BeoutQ was hosted on frequencies transmitted by Arabsat and was promoted and carried out by individuals and entities subject to Saudi Arabia’s territorial jurisdiction.

Those seeking to follow beoutQ’s example should be in no doubt that UEFA will go to great lengths to protect its property and support its partners, whose investment in football helps it to remain the world’s most popular sport from grassroots to elite level. Piracy not only threatens that investment but also the existence of professional sport as we know it.

Today’s ruling shows clearly that no-one involved in audio-visual piracy should consider themselves above the rule of law."

There is a lot of anger in Ireland about that fight because of Daniel Kinahan's involvement in it.

I believe it's been regular practice for some time now for BeIN to put up statements and reports on screen during live coverage regarding the illegal status of BeoutQ. Most of what BeoutQ airs is an off air rebroadcast of BeIN, so I guess their hope is that these statements also go out on BeoutQ in hope viewers switch off.

It's also the reason BeIN now has a very annoying, but in this case understandable, moving DOG on screen.

It's good to see the WTO has got involved, but given how brazenly the Saudi's have been running the BeoutQ piracy operation, somehow I don't think they'll take any notice of it.

From what I have read the BeOutQ channels have been stopped and are definitely not on satellite anymore anyway. The annoying watermark logo on BeIN still exists but is nowhere near as prevelant as it used to be.

Images of the statement and one of the related newspaper headlines they are showing. They also showed one about the ruling causing issues with the Saudi/Newcastle United takeover.

Wrong thread? You probably wanted the actual sports thread.

No, since the WTO ruling will now (seemingly) affect the attempted Saudi takeover of Newcastle, I thought it was relevant to note here.
