I am given to understand that there is an announcer in Wales. He or she records announcements in advance sending them to London to be "played in". Being technically accurate, to sit back, watch and listen helpless as a commercial rolls, crashes a programme and the voice says "...and now on BBC One Scotland, Corostretian Nate"

Which is pushing it really, when the requirements of the DCMS are that ITV1Wales continuity must come from Wales.

Yeah sure Banksey ,seriously though why do they not just air live continuity if there is an announcer present at Cardiff seems realy silly ?

Seriously, you do have point. In the last days of HTV West continuity we had a feed from Southampton and my operating the mic key would fade the audio sufficiently so that when I opted myself in what was said could be heard. The technology is in place to send clean (no London anno) feeds to Cardiff thus allowing Sue and Leighton to do the same and I am amazed that this is not the way things are being done.
At the moment it is a case of putting a screw in by 1 person holding screwdriver, 1 person holding screw and 150 turning the wall.

I just typed www.itv1wales.co.uk into my browswer - a webhost was there - so i changed itv1 to htv - five popups apppeared! I can't tell which address was to to blame, but if it's ITV1 Wales' website (htvwales.co.uk), I'd be worried. BTW, I should've typed

What has that got to do with anything? And it's Sianel Pedwar Cymru, not that it matters as it is always referred to as S4C.

Since there's no Welsh language programmes, why do they need seperate announcers, when most programmes are the same as ITV1 in England?
And the S4C spelling error was an easy mistake. It's Welsh, not English remember, and their on screen ID has only ever referred to WaleS4Cymru.

Because in the eyes of the Welsh Assembly, HTV is a national broadcaster. The assembly do not want HTV to become simply another ITV region. It is the only reason that we have an ITV1 Wales - if it was up to ITV, the branding would have been the same as England.
In addition to this, HTV has a higher quota of programming to produce than the English regions.
That's not me talking, they are the legal requirements.

Well that's nothing compared with the ITV network annos announcement tonight!
At 10pm, we have the ident and a speech with "...and Dragnet's in half an hour". Errr....wrong! There's the end of Die Hard still to come. So when it came to half ten - "Dragnet's at 11.55pm" (in what came across as a yes-I-know-I-made-a-mistake voice!)
