Just before the teatime edition of HTV News today (Sunday), we had the ITV 1 WEST OF ENGLAND logo. Fine. Then the announcer says, NOW ON ITV 1 ITS TIME FOR THE LATEST WESTCOUNTRY NEWS.

Errrrrrrrr, yes.

Wrong audio got loaded.

Should I get excited, or arrange for the person who did it to be fired?

As far as I know, all regional continuity on ITV1 is recorded, so this kind of slipup is fairly common, although how they can get an entire channel mixed up is in my opinion suggestive of some fairly sloppy qc procedures.

Don't Meridian sill handle the tx for HTV? Even more of a strange occurance if they do.

Kinda the reverse that happened in the week then, when HTV News came through on Westcountry..
Although they do like saying "the headlines making the news in the westcountry now.." on HTV News, mind.

HTV Wales has been surprisingly smooth this day, Sunday is the day when I perhaps watch the most programmes on the channel. Apart from a local people ident into the news [not usual], all the junctions have worked[!] I think I might complain.

Although Sue has been rushingtosqueezetwentysecondsworthofanno in 7 second junctions -- which, considering she no doubt recorded them on Friday, is very skillful.

No, Doctor, not any more.

I think it's now common knowledge, so I can't get into any further trouble if I confirm that both HTV West and Westcountry come from our good friends on the South Bank, LNN.

I'm sure they didn't MEAN to get it wrong!

Does LNN feed each transmitter site directly, or does it go to the regional ITV company for them to do stuff like local promos and ad breaks or is effectively everything handled at LNN now, even local programmes?

On the subject of ITV feeds, why was Meridan chosen to transmit HTV and Anglia in the first place?

It goes back to the UNM days, Doctor, when they were all the same company.

As to the CURRENT situation on LNN feeds, I DAREN'T comment, for fear of decapitation!

I assume it's a bit of a mess - I must admit I don't watch ITV1 all that often, but when I do it is not uncommon to see the LNN Digital Transmission Centre still, a plain ITV1 logo on the blue background, and more strangely, an ANGLIA still with the old hearts style background.

Is the goal eventually to have an infrastructure much like the BBC where everything is broadcast centrally, and the local centres are used for regional news and regional programme slots, making YTV’s play out facility redundant?

If the local stuff was coming from the local TV studios..... It wouldn't be coming from LNN would it? It would be just like before!

I assume (I don't know for certain) that the complete channels leave the south bank and then go to the transmitters on a route via the regional centre.

Not that it has to do much with what's being said... but would you refer any area of the region that HTV West broadcasts to as 'the westcountry' only the time i saw HTV News the female presenter said 'the news making the headlines in the westcountry tonight'

Oh yes, I see myself as living "in the westcountry" and I'm in Wiltshire, which is certainly HTV country.

You'll even hear Bristolians saying they're from "t'westcountry m'dear".

I'd probably NOT include HTV's Gloucestershire in "westcountry", but the rest of their area fits into the description quite happily.

I do love the fact that this thread is peppered with Nick's "Ooo, better not say too much about that!"

Certain managers would genuinely be concerned about contributions to this forum from "those in the know". While they write memo's about the Rt Hon Member for Wilts ramblings they don't have to concern themselves with the fact that presentation on ITV1 is a disgrace, an abomination, the dark lord Satan could not be more happy, so poor has it become that the stench of Bohemian mediocrity would be sweet in its presence. World War 1 raged and Captain Darling ordered pencils. To be fair that is just my wishy washy wet liberal view.

The day before yesterday I received an email it read or to Mick Hucknell the sentence it simply read (moment of humour there) " Is it just me or is the standard of continuity announcers, particularly on ITV, pretty poor.....The guy who was on earlier this evening was outstandingly bad."

This person knows nothing about TV other than he watches it and knows nothing about this forum.
