You could well be right. It does show a lot of sport I wouldn't expect it to have the money for, but at least in those instances all ITV needs to provide is a commentary team.

Yes - but sports rights are the same cost however much output you make, and will be budgeted very differently.

The per hour production costs of basic sports production (commentary and simple Pres) are going to be an order of magnitude less compared to a shiny floor studio entertainment show.

Don't see how sports rights are relevent to this thread.

Now, back to comparisons with TOWIE...

In My Opinion, WOS Wrestling should really go on ITV4 and should be live. Then ITV could show a highlight show of WOS Wrestling on Saturday Night.

That would increase costs significantly; I believe that the current series was recorded over 2 days.

I believe the same approach is taken with Ninja Warrior, I think they film that over a week period.

Filmed over 2 or 3 days in Norwich, quite a few months ago.

It was originally planned to be filmed over 3 days in Blackburn about 18 months ago, soon after the Christmas 2 hour spectacular in December 2016, but was scrapped for unknown reason..

Ninja Warrior France is filmed at night, I'd assume going by the fact that the presenters are in winter coats and nights are longer that they film two a night for a typical 6-8 episode run.

That would massively increase 'per episode' costs, whilst simultaneously moving the show to a channel with lower tariffs (i.e. a channel that has smaller 'per episode' budgets). Not sure that would work.

It's a bit more than 'just a commentary team - there's production, facilities, edits - you can make telly on the cheap, but it takes more people than you might think for the simplest of shows.

I once heard a ballpark figure that you should budget 10% of your rights spend on facilities. Though I also heard once that the rights to a single football game went for a nominal £20, so obviously this doesn't always hold true.
