Why would Calendar relaunch their programme to the same colours as the national? What's more, why would they do it when a relaunch of the national was imminent? Just because the colours happen to reflect the former colours of the national doesn't mean it was to bring the two into line does it?

Because they didn't know ITN's plans, duh! Mad It was a last minute decision.

DAS - we've crossposted, sorry.

... and seeing as Granada most probably knew about the planned colour change I can only agree with DAS.

It wasn't a last minute decision, and Yorkshire would have known about the changes.

Then why choose those colours - most previous Calendar logos had used light blue, ever since computer animation was introduced.

Because there is no law, to my knowledge, that says Calendar must always and forever have a light blue colour scheme. Maybe the production team fancied a change and in their wildness went for red and blue?

I've just thought - Granada, not Yorkshire, probably chose it - didn't the final Granada Tonight titles use those colours? Wouldn't be surprised if the next relaunch affects all regions owned by Granada though - they've already made the idents, endcaps, and weather generic, the news is the last bastion of regionality - see Anglia and Meridian for the strongest examples.

The exact same can be said for the Carlton regions.

which aren't the same as Granada's! Post merger, they'll all change again - the news might only stay totally regional for another year - by which time, maybe the national idents will be due for a complete relaunch - and I don't mean more celebs.

By 'most' I take it you mean the previous version and the one before that? What about the purple titles, or the various gold and dark blue ones?

If that's the purple one you mean, the big C symbol and the text is light blue.
The 1990 one uses light blue on the map. The Calendar Newws one from the same era had a blue-green and purple gradient. The 1985 Lunchtime Live logo used light blue and white for the background - this was part of the first computerised titles.

And they were all found at one site - TV Ark. (TV Home doesn't have any footage that I could find at all)

For me the HTV Wales News theme is awful.

In fact every HTV News theme and title sequence since the early 1990s has been absolute crap. If there is one theme I would choose from HTV News' looks over the last 10 years is the yellow and orange look from 1999-2001.

The current theme is too old fashioned and typically HTV, with self-important trumpets and a headline bed which is neither here nor there.

Westcountry News' theme is awful too. I loved the old music and theme - the brand itself was strong and modern. Now the music is very whimsical and Westcountry News has become nothing more than a lazy mess.
