From what I have seen on the internet, I have to disagree with you Andrew. I don't mind the theme which Anglia News uses, IMO I think the best themes are Calendar, Granada Reports, Central News West, Central News South, Meridian Tonight and HTV News (Wales). I can say that I am not a fan of HTV West's, I haven't heard the theme for UTV Live, so I can't comment, I am not to keen on Westcountry Live's current theme, Grampian and Channel aren't that bad, North East Tonight and Scotland Today and Cenral News East's are OK, the same goes for London Tonight, but they are well overdue for a new look, though it's still nice to hear a remix of the original theme in the current titles.
Though I am not sure which ITV Regions get thrashed by the BBC, I think Calendar gets thrashed, when Granada Reports was Granada Tonight, I am certain they got thrashed. But from what I have read on the BBC's website about regional commitments apparently the BBC does beat ITV in the ratings for regional news.
I cant say there are any ITV Regional News Themes I like, or any looks to the programmes I like. It all seems cheap and tacky or OTT.
And in a comment that will spark fury, What the f*ck is wrong with Calendar news!!! The set is ghastly, the music is OTT and the titles, if they even clarify are... boring and have no relevence As I Can See to news, and are there just because of the name of the bulletin!
It has to be BTV's Lookaround......if a small station like CTV can have a decent theme then why can't BTV.
STV's Scotland Today has become a little "wishy washy".....with the music being too discreet for news (rather like UTV Live....good visuals, but no feeling soundtrack wise).

The Calendar title sequence features a calendar - two previous ones did as well (1968, early 1990's). It features a clock - which reads 6pm, it's timeslot. Fair enough. What it could use though, are regional scenes (even from the day's stories), and the YTV chevron, since it doesn't appear anywhere else these days.
I don't like Central News East's - can't put my finger on what it is I don't like about it though.
Then again, I don't like Central News East much anyway...but out of kindness, I shall refrain from further comment as I know that many forumers are still traumatised by the name M**** A****.
Calendar, always, and probably will carry on doing so, thrash Look North in the ratings. When you consider the enormous amount of resources poured into the programme, you can see why (six area offices, four camera crews in Leeds alone, multiple local news agents together with a permanent news centre on Kirkstall Road, no stuffy newsroom here you know!)
The theme is catchy and titles are both colourful and informative. The presenter line up is excellent (no Christa Ackroyd, for a start) and Duncan has come on leaps and bounds - an excellent choice, comfortable with the viewers and knowledgeable.
Prehaps those of you who disagree would like to take a look at the BBC offering. It rambles for about six minutes of news, no local split (OK so Hull now has it's own programme, but surely it doesn't need 30 minutes?) and then twenty two minutes of pap. Harry Gration is a consumate professional but as for the female, she is a pain and an instant turn off. I never liked her on Calendar (bring on Marilyn Webb).
The BBC likes to think it is THE news organisation, it's not. The ITV companies at local level do it much better.

Not surprised - bring back the cake! Is MA a presenter?

Er...no. Look North thrashes Calendar by a margin of 10 percent. Calendar gets about 19 or 20 per cent while Look North has a massive 33 or more percent.

Theme and titles are awful...bland and uninspired IMHO.
Christa is clearly a big puller for the BBC...thats why they win hands down! Duncan is good but from Sunderland and Christine is from Lancashire - both not Yorkshire folk. No wonder people in Yorkshire prefer the BBC!

Thats as maybe but the figures speak for themselves!
