Worst presentation of all time

Irritable idents and poor promos (December 2017)

As we approach the one year anniversary of the sheer horror and revulsion the forum rightly expressed when Martin Parr’s sub-par BBC One idents were belched onto screen, and also because I’m home for Christmas with barely anything to do, I thought it would only be right to remember and share the other bits of pres over the years that really got on your goat. There’s no judging or right or wrong, just share the videos that caused you despair and offload your grief.

I’ll start with this, the BBC One promo endboards of circa 2005. They don’t actually look as bad as I remember now but at the time I thought the animation of the blinds closing was so poor, I hated the BBC One logo red on the different shade of red and it was yet another element that broke up the unity between the BBC’s once reasonably uniform presentation.

The slo-mo celebs gawping was also my least favourite ITV era, not helped with this launch promo using what has to be one of my most loathed songs, That’s Entertainment. I can completely understand why they went for this concept of ident, reenforcing the key stars and brands of the channel, but the situations and the slowness of it all meant it really wasn’t interesting enough to sustain as long as it managed to.

That weird period in 2002 when Five and UK Gold had identical boring idents.

Challenge's 2013 presentation never did the channel any justice at all.

Never said much about the channel, and the characters became dull and annoying.

These idents below also got a lot of stick back in the day:

I didnt mind those Challenge idents a few years ago I got why there did it. Im surprised no one complained about Carlton 93 idents

Mind you I find the current TRU TV idents a pile of crap:

I only put Challenge's idents there since I personally struggle to find an ident set that is legendarily bad. Personally, I thought Oneness was the first pres package that I felt was truly *bad*.

TruTV wasn't too bad but aside from presentation that channel just doesn't stand out among channels with a similar demographic.

I;m going to throw BBC Alba under the bus, there do nothing to say what that channel is about.

BBC2 in it's current state is an embarassment, and old idents aside the presentation has been shocking since the yellow idents set and associated presentation was dropped a decade ago.

What made that Challenge set so bad was that the package before it was so good. It was a real shame to see them go.

As for Carlton, I don't see why anybody would've complained. At the time they were completely unique. Almost everybody was using some sort of CGI stuff by that point, so live action was a total break from the norm. Unfortunately it's become painstakingly commonplace nowadays with much worse concepts.

Oneness of course

Five 2002-04. Not a fan of the logo and was a shadow of the original Wolff Ollins 5 in a circle though the 2004 and 2006 rebooted idents were better.

Also throw in the current ITV idents which are too similar to five's 2002 idents as five must have influenced ITV for their future idents. Bascially five were telling us how dull and drab idents would be these days

Channel 5 seem to make a habit of clips that aren't so much idents as anons.
