As we approach the one year anniversary of the sheer horror and revulsion the forum rightly expressed when Martin Parr’s sub-par BBC One idents were belched onto screen, and also because I’m home for Christmas with barely anything to do, I thought it would only be right to remember and share the other bits of pres over the years that really got on your goat. There’s no judging or right or wrong, just share the videos that caused you despair and offload your grief.
I’ll start with this, the BBC One promo endboards of circa 2005. They don’t actually look as bad as I remember now but at the time I thought the animation of the blinds closing was so poor, I hated the BBC One logo red on the different shade of red and it was yet another element that broke up the unity between the BBC’s once reasonably uniform presentation.
The slo-mo celebs gawping was also my least favourite ITV era, not helped with this launch promo using what has to be one of my most loathed songs, That’s Entertainment. I can completely understand why they went for this concept of ident, reenforcing the key stars and brands of the channel, but the situations and the slowness of it all meant it really wasn’t interesting enough to sustain as long as it managed to.
