Not sure about the worst... but definitely the best:

BART!

and "Just A Minute" and "The Journey" from the ITV Schools rotomotion ident

I could talk for hours about favourites, but as for those I didn't like:

ITV, Autumn 1986 : the tracks 'Like Clockwork' and 'Around the Clock' - sorry, but I thought they were terrible.

Channel 4 Schools music (1993-) never impressed me either.

Have to agree there. The whole sequence is permanently etched into the minds of everyone who was at primary school in the late 80's / early 90's.

I agree that the 'ITV Schools on 4' junctions were great graphics and tracks, Chris. But for me, the pre-1987 ITV Schools era was the best; different tracks each term and a different interval slide each week. I have quite a lot of them on video, but before we got a VCR I used to sit down in front of the telly and draw the bloomin' things. Laughing

Even me, and I was only 7 years old when they got rid of it. I can remember once a week we had a programme we watched once a week, and our teacher always took us early so we could se it. Not something that would happen now, as most schools record the shows and play them back later. They'd been doing that at my secondary school for ages- we watched videos tat were taped in the 80s, but the teacher always set the video up before the lesson which means we Rarely saw the idents (the 6 years I was there, I only saw them twice- the yellow =2= ident, and the 1981-85 BBC1 globe).

Although I can see that the different music and slides added variety, I still think the longevity of the C4 sequence which never changed (not even allowing the change of ITV logo to stand in its way) built up a bizarre kind of raport with the viewer which a constantly changing approach can't do - it was brand recognition at it's best.

Yep, I remember the good old days of being led to 'the television room' to watch thiings on a particularly old TV set with the teacher making a point of allowing us to watch the sequence. Indeed, we were usually more enthusiastic about watching the rotomotion and countdown clock than the programme which would follow it.

One thing I will never forget though is when I was 16 and my physics teacher let the whole sequence play through on the video 'as a treat'. Now, you'd think a group of 16 year olds would not be the most likely candidates to sit through TV presentation, but no, we were all there duh ditting along to 'just a minute' like a group of 5 year olds.

I was 6 when ITV schools moved to Channel 4/S4C, I can just about remember the ITV for Schools and Colleges presentation, but most of all I remember the ITV Schools on C4, they were the best school programme presentation ever.

As for the worst well I agree the 1993 Channel 4 ones were poor, the S4C ones with the dragon clock thing was much better.
