How can you say it is the worst show before you have seen it? It may well be the case, but at least watch the programme before criticising it. This is a Grampian production so why should Andrea not be presenting it? STV are not producing a Hogmanay show this year, so perhaps you should complain to Scottish. This is only the second time in nine years since Grampian merged with STV that the Hogmanay show has been from the Grampian region, the other one being recorded. Spare a thought for Grampian viewers who thought the Hogmanay shows in seven of the last nine years were the worst programmes ever to appear on Grampian.
Hogmanay Live from Stonehaven is an odd combination of programme, with a recorded review of 2005 presented by Stephen Jardine interspersed with the live show. However, the Fireballs Ceremony is really spectacular with up to 10,000 expected to attend, and I am sure it will be a big hit with Grampian viewers. STV viewers will no doubt prefer to watch BBC Scotland. The STV shows from Edinburgh were slaughtered every year in the ratings battle with the BBC, so it is no surprise to me STV have thrown the towel in.
BTW, it is HogmanAy not hogmany.

You know why it was slaughtered every year? Cos SMG put more money in the biscuit tin than they put into those productions. I mean, Stephen Jardine is a newsreader. I don’t want a newsreader standing in scabby scaffold platform 12feet up in the air on Edinburgh Street trying to entertain the Country – like last year. Newsreaders spend all year reading auto-cue, then TV bosses expect them to ad-lib the country into a new year!! I could list a dozen talented people who could do the job better. But of course these progs are so low in production value that descent talent won’t touch them!!
BBC2 has the right idea, lots of music, a bit of lighthearted chat; little bit of fun all pre-recorded so there are no gaffs or cock-ups.
Hey, what the hell do I know?

Smacks of box-ticking to me. It's being done so SMG can go "Look, we do care about Grampian after all", safe in the knowledge that absolutely no-one is going to watch them. Given the choice, no-one's going to watch a bunch of lunatics swinging some balls of fire around, but then no-one's going to watch SMG anyway, so it makes no odds, they just have to do it to fulfil their licence remit.
Everyone will watch the BBC's now traditional Hogmanay line-up and stick with them through the bells. They really have perfected the routine, and they've also worked out that very few young people are going to be in that particular night, so really made it Grannyvision with the terrible studio music.
Having said that, I heard it was coming from Edinburgh Castle with slightly more credible music this year. Can anyone confirm? Also wonder if there will be a tribute to Tam the Gun during the show.
Must say, going back to SMG, that I'm disappointed that there's no other special programmes aside from the Hogmanay show. They go straight back to the ITV1 schedule at 12.15am.
Another note - I take it Border Scotland will receive the SMG show?

Yep.
before border created the scottish sub region - did border show the english schedule or the scottish new year shows?
Presumably the English schedule as it covers a larger area, but I could be wrong.

And thankfully you're not in charge of Scheduling then.
Scotland exists outside of the central belt, and yet another show from Edinburgh Castle would be pretty boring.
And its not as if there's gonna be that many sober viewers anyway

I loved their pre-rec'd NYE shows - cos the whole midnight thing once happened at five past. It's quite funny!

Oh yes, Scotland exists outwith the central belt - but frankly spending Hogmanay watching a bunch of maniacs spinning balls of fire on television doesn't really appeal. I'm sure it's a great experience if you're actually there, but for TV you want fireworks, you want a big atmosphere that you're not in the middle of, and you want a handy gap of about 30 seconds so you can say happy new year, and then you want a good tune as a bridge so you can settle back down.
You don't want Stephen Jardine commentating on the activities of a backwater. Why not go to Glasgow? Or Aberdeen? Or both if they're going to do properly regional television?
Btw - completely o/t - it's amazing how much more interested BBC Scotland continuity are in a programme when it's one of their own. There was almost a bit of personality in the announcement after River City into The Broons programme. Normally they read English scripts in monotone.
Btw2 - Border took the English programme before the sub-opt, which used to get regular annoyed press coverage in the Scottish media.
