As a journalist myself, and someone who was shocked beyond words by what happened, I think that EVERY presenter and reporter who has covered this story so far today has done an outstanding job holding everything (including themselves) together.

Someone's already mentioned the interview between Kirsty Young and her husband. And the moment that sticks in my mind the most is when the BBC went to speak to their reporter who was in the World Trade Centre at the time of the explosion just as the first tower collapsed. Someone in the background shouted 'oh my god', and the BBC reporter just said 'there's been another explosion' before the line went dead. The presenters in the studio must have been going out of their minds with worry for the safety of their colleague, but still managed to stay perfectly calm. Has anyone heard if he's OK? I think his name was Steve something - an economics correspondent.

I could not believe those pictures on the brilliantly run Six O'clock News from Iran of those people celebrating the carnage in NY. How heartless can you be to regard it as a victory? It was sickening to see all those children indoctrinated to cheer and wave Iranian flags .. awful. Shame on the pure evil 'people' who were behind this.

Here in Spain the attack happened just at the same time the lunchtime news were beginning (1500 CET)

The networks, TVE 1 , Antena 3 TV, Telecinco and Canal + all are showing their own news (using US local stations) and sometimes they connect to CNN. TVE 1 is showing also its coverage on Canal 24 Horas (its sister news channel like bbcn24 and bbc one) and TVE internacional (europe, asia and america versions).

I saw those pictures earlier on Channel 4's live coverage. Jon Snow made a point along the lines of 'I think it's safe to say that those pictures could have been filmed at any time, so there's no evidence that that's how people are reacting'. Hope he's right.

As I am sure everyone on the forum will agree my thoughts are with the people in America tonight.

I arrived home without a clue about todays news at 2.45 I was about to turn on the tv at 2.55 when I noticed I had mail. Then I switched on the TV, it atomatically switches to BBC 1. I saw News 24 and thought, perhaps it's something like a train crash or foot and mouth (they had broadcast special programmes for these reasons before. To check to see how major this event was I switched to ITV where I saw the images for the first time, and the blue information aston at the bottom of the screen.

I stayed with ITN, and I think I spotted the first tower collapsing before ITN, as it was origianally believed to be an explossion. By now I am flicking between ITN News Channel and ITV, then I thought I would do a sweep of channels, I stuck with Channel 4, a channel that normally doesn't do extra full-length news buliteins, but the coverage was good.

I think, in my opinion ITN on ITV, Four and ITN News channel has offered the best coverage. The Meridian insert on ITN was also very goodd, with what were obviously very rushed reports (Debbie Thrower wasn't even ready - It proved the urgency of the whole event and it was nice to see)

I think the news providers and TV Channels did a very good job, and well done ITV for letting Kirsty speak to her husband on air to check to see if all was well.

[I][B]I would just like to say again that this is a very shocking incident and my thoughts are with the American people and relatives of those caught up in this utter madness.

IRELAND:

tv3 carried live feed from CNN US, they even put their new dog over the CNN logo!

RTE had the most shoddily produced report during the day, they kept jumping between The Presenter (by himself in the studio) and then shots from various sources (not nearly as extensive as any other network).

I thought the CNN feed was quite good, they had their Anchorman reporting live from New York, from the top of a building, he was just as shocked as anyone as the buildings collapsed behind him.

comments suggesting ITN are superior to BBC today are complete nonsense, they were BOTH carrying feeds from US Networks. ITV, Channel 4 , ITN News and Channel 5 had different production teams working at the channels, thats all.

If any note can be drawn, is the fact that BBC can assemble all their resources to the one transmission for the UK (BBC One and N24). But really, they carried other network coverage.

I do like read on this forums for tv presentation but in this case i dont think it is very important. So if you want to say anything try and stick with what is happening (news wise), and what your thoughts about the situation.

Personally i think this is the most devestating thing that i have ever heard to date, with thousands dead my thoughts go to the friends and family of those that have died. After seeing that people in Isrial (havent spelt that right but it doesnt matter) celebrating in the streets over this devestation in america. I think this is very sick. No matter if you dont like the country very much it is still not very nice to hear that people in there thousands have died.

Where is Judy Woodruff broadcasting from? That doesn't look like the regular CNN Washington studio - have they moved to an underground bunker or something, or is that just a new/different studio?
