They have been announcing the dual-channel running all afternoon - Is it really for viewer information or is it just a chance for free advertising for N24?

My deepest sympathy is with the Americans tonight - any American or American-related person viewing this forum topic, I bless you...
WHAT I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THIS
It was at 3:43pm when I was informed that the U.S Government was 'shutting down.' A few minutes later I heard that the English Government may shut down too. I also heard that all flights to and from the UK had been cancelled/suspended.
Listening to my local radio station on the way home at 5:30pm tonight, I was extremely shocked to hear that the twin towers had collapsed. Struggling to take this news in, I carried on with my journey home, thinking about my holiday in which I went to New York in 1999 and visited the twin towers.
I arrived home at 5:40pm to flick between the coverage of the news on both BBC1 and Sky News. Since then, I have been flicking between the channels, and also ITV.
I still cannot take this news in - the twin towers, the World Trade Center has gone because of those planes. The force of the planes must have had a teriffic impact if it came right through the other side of one of the towers.
Seeing the towers collapse just brough a tear to my eye, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
New York is a great city of the world - let's not ruin it anymore.
With deepest sympathy...
THE COVERAGE
Perhaps I can correct you on this Billy Hicks88... (lol)
>> BBC Two are showing a conference - a.k.a, an empty conference room!
>> Channel 4 have been banned from filming the coverage - they might turn it into a sick documentary!

And the moment that sticks in my mind the most is when the BBC went to speak to their reporter who was in the World Trade Centre at the time of the explosion just as the first tower collapsed. Someone in the background shouted 'oh my god', and the BBC reporter just said 'there's been another explosion' before the line went dead. The presenters in the studio must have been going out of their minds with worry for the safety of their colleague, but still managed to stay perfectly calm. Has anyone heard if he's OK? I think his name was Steve something - an economics correspondent.
I think (hope) he's OK, I have heard several clips from him this afternoon on Radio 1, 2, 5 and also on BBC TV News.

That's good to hear that the BBC reporter's OK.
Take a look at Channel 4 - the bloke being interviewed looks like he's sitting in a BBC studio!
Edit: DOH - he's gone now, but you could just see a bbc-style metal rail behind him, and he was sitting on a bbc-stlye yellow chair. Can't remember where he was, though.

Yep, no one's updated the BBC2 EPG yet unfortunately - so not entirely clear how long the BBC2 coverage will go on for - and whether they'll run the two programmes simultaneously at 8pm.

I think the plan is for News24 to switch to BBC2 at 7.30 when BBC1 does Eastenders.
At 8.00 there will be a special Panaroma from TC7 on BBC1 and News24
