Does this mean that BBC America won't carry the World feed for news and HardTalk?

...Dang.

No. It is BBC World Service radio which is closing it's SW radio transmitters in N America, in favour of listeners receiving MW/FM and via the internet.

This service has no connection with BBC World or BBC America.

I bought a shorwave radio a while back to get the World Service and I could not get it at all and the times that I could get it where very obscure -- it seemed that the only thing that I did get on my sw radio was Radio Vietnam - which was very odd.

But I found out that I could listen to the World Service on the internet and since I have a cable modem the quality is impeccable and I can listen to it whenever I want.

You were hearing the Voice of Vietnam via Radio Canada International's transmitters in Sackville, located in very eastern Canada. RCI's transmitters beam several stations for the benefit of eastern North America including VoV as well as Deutsche Welle, Radio Austria International, and BBC World Service.

BBC should be easily audible during North American evenings in the 49 metre band. They have long used 6175 kilohertz during the evenings, but you can get a complete schedule from www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice.

The decision to close down broadcasts to North America is, of course, ridiculous. The Internet feed is also useful.
