Guidelines for World Cup commentary teams
1: Within 1 minute of kick-off in the opening match (Germany v Costa Rica),
the commentator must mention England.
2: Regardless of what two teams are contesting the final, England have to be
mentioned in the first minute.
3: The commentator shall refer to the Falkland Islands in passing at some
point in the match if England play Argentina.
4: Whenever a hat-trick is scored, comparisons with Geoff Hurst will be made
within seconds of the third goal hitting the net.
5: 1966 will be mentioned approximately 10 times a match, or only on 4 or 5
occasions for matches not involving England.
6: Should England wear their red jerseys, then "1966"should be mentioned
approximately 20 times.
7: Prior to the captain of the winning team lifting the trophy, the
commentator will mention Bobby Moore and 1966.
8: All Scottish and Welsh members of our commentary team must continue to
refer to England as "we" and "us".
9: We must ensure that nationalistic stereotypes are adhered to. Of course,
the Germans are arrogant, the Spanish are bottlers, the Ivory Coast are fast
but bad at defending, the Angolans are disorganised, the Argentinians are
cheats and the French are only good because their best players play in
England.
10: For matches not involving England, we must only discuss the players
that are playing in England. (e.g. Holland v Argentina should be referred to
as Van Nistlerooy v Crespo.)
11: When England bow out after the first stage, we must emphasise that it is
a massive blow to football and a serious loss to the World Cup.
12: If in doubt, mention 1966.
Watch the games to see how many you can tick off !

Constitutionally NI is a province, not a country. Maps can be misleading!

That's odd, in Northern Ireland we define country as;
But seriously, ITV and Sky are really bad when talking about England, it's not my nation. God help us if they actually win the whole thing. When was the last time they won, and they still go on about it! Having said that, I do wish the only home nation in this stage of the competition all the best.

NO NO NO - its got sod all to do with independance or politics. It has to do with our UK media companies remembering they serve more than England - they should remember that!!

Hopefully we can soon put that colonialist past behind us , and tell the imperialists and their media where to go.

Not strictly true! There are TWO countries in the UK: England and Scotland. Wales is a principality of England, and NI is a province. The Isle of Man and the Channel Islands are not even part of the UK!

Wrong , it's actually got everything to do with that - compare the Scottish newspapers with the ones on offer in Wales. Do you get all the england crap in your version of the sun or mirror ? The Wales Labour party has ceased to exist , I believe the Scottish labour party is still extant.

Right time to clear this up. (BTW i'm not shouting when I use capitals, I just cant be arsed to do all the HTML bold formatting)
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constituent_countries for more info.
There are only two countries in the BRITISH ISLES: the UK and Ireland
The UNITED KINGDOM of GREAT BRITAIN and NORTHERN IRELAND is ONE country.
GREAT BRITAIN is the result of the UNIFICATION of three old KINGDOMS: England, Wales and Scotland.
Wales is not a principality of England, it is a constituent country of Great Britain.
England is no more a country in its own right that Scotland or Wales.
A country must have two elements: nationhood and statehood - i.e. territory and governance. Since England has no unitary authority, parliament, assembly or other government, it cannot be called a country, only a nation. Because Wales and Scotland are still governed by a single parliament along with England and NI, they are again not countries, only nations. They ceased to be countries when they lost their own independence, as did England when it was UNITED with Scotland and Wales into one country.
The USSR was exactly the same. The Ukraine, Estonia, Azerbajan, Uzbekistan etc. all were NATIONS, but not COUNTRIES because they were brought under the UNION of Soviet republics governed by Moscow.
The USA is exactly the same. The Nations pre-civil war had independent authorities and were considered countries in their own right until they were brought under the banner of the UNITED States.
Other famous examples include Yugoslavia.
The UK will always be the UK - unless NATIONalists in the NATIONS decide they want to split off - in which case the UK would stand for UNTIED Kingdom.

That's right. Even if Scotland were to become independent it would still be served by the same media companies in London. Unless all of the current broadcasters were replaced by completely independent broadcasters such as a Channel 4 Scotland. Which would just be a complete waste of money for everybody concerned.
